I just bought the antler New bond street luggage, set of 3... Myer had them for $1100... But bought them from the luggage professionals for $499 including delivery... Very happy with them... Well constructed and well designed. Very happy with the purchase.

I very like the Cosmolite's .... now just wishing my current Samsonite hard case breaks soon so I can upgrade to this That said, I don't see my current Samsonite breaking anytime soon, I think it's the model/series just before the Cosmo's, it's so tough that I sometimes jump on top of it, and the luggage takes me along for the ride

depends on how much you want to spend!
I personally use Tumi but they are quite expensive, starting at about $1400 for a 22" international case. This particular case can be taken on board as carry on when its not expanded, subject to the carry on weight limits. Tumi have this fantastic service called the Tumi Tracer program where each piece of luggage you own can be registered with them and if it is ever lost anywhere in the world, they will facilitate its return if the airline/s dont. They also have a "limited" lifetime warranty and will repair any parts that are faulty except for wear and tear items like the wheels and corners. I have 4 cases, 1 of which I take everywhere. I would estimate it has been on about 200 or so flights and only now needs replacing, so overall, despite the high initial cost, it actually turns out to be quite good value. The other cases are the same age, but dont get used as much and are in almost as new condition. I did consider the Victorinox "Tourbach" range which offers the same benefits and even more, in offering you an emergency loan suitcase anywhere in the world, if your case is in for repair (even for normal wear and tear items) but decided against it as it would not "match" my other cases. it is similarly priced as Tumi and i would think its equally as good. i would absolutely avoid fashionable cases like Rimowa or Louis Vuitton as they look nice, but arent really durable for the frequent flyer.

Thanks for your feedback - as previously mentioned on this thread I will visit Peters of Kensington as they have quoted prices even better than the Myer 40% off and have stock of both Antler and Samsonite.

I nearly went for the Cosmolite as a carry-on but it only has a single arm/handle so an additional bag or laptop can't be hitched on top. Also, it doesn't have any type of hook so the carry-on and checked bag can't be connected - which I find invaluable when travelling with a ton of luggage.

Just back from a quick visit to NZ. Took my trusty Samsonite which I bought in USA a couple of years ago. Instead of using the built in TSA lock, I simply used a padlock. Result, broken zip pull. Lesson learned. Otherwise been very happy with this case.

Picked up a Samsonite skywheeler a few years ago, doesn't look like it will break anytime soon despite the best efforts of American baggage handlers.

Yup. That changed meant I selected another brand for my last purchase. Couldn't justify the high price without the lifetime warranty.

Shame really as ive used TUMI for as long as I can remember and havent had any trouble that wasnt fixed promptly at no charge.

Victorinox Tourbach has similar pieces at similar prices as the TUMI FXT Ballistic range but offers a replacement loan bag any where in the world. Might have to take a look.

My trusty old samsonite suitcase named "Spot" (as he was all the one colour and had no identifiable features) has finally died, the wheels are kaput and there is a crack on the hinge.
I've had him since the early 90's and he has served me well.

He was an expensive case back in his day, but I must say he was worth it.

So the question is, what to replace him with? I'm not overly concerned about the cost, I want something that is super light (so I can carry more stuff) and as tough as hell
The next use will be in May so I have a month to source and get him delivered.

What is everyone's experiences? The cosmolite looks a bit "meh" to me, but what would I know....
Whilst not essential, one that can easily be identified would also be a bonus.

I can proudly mention that I've seen my fair share of luggage varieties over the years.
For my 'apprenticeships" with various hotel & travel management positions & personal travel for the past decades there are good & bad characteristics in every style, shape, colour & brand of luggage.
From my own experiences & observations, consistantly & contentiously .. Samsonite seems to be the front runner & distinct innovator in this game..
Forget the cheap 'price leader, look a like type" it will certainly let you down at the worst possible moment.. & embarrassment galore!
As my own travel requirements, I use a Rimowa Topas - which without bias or any sponsorship or donated deals.. Self funded variety, with my hard earned 'clams"... It certainly serves all of my travel exceptionally well.
This is a full alloy, made in Germany, completely sealed, hard case, unladen @ <5kgs. Brilliant locking system & the best rolling system over soft/hard/uneven surfaces.
This has endured this most harshest treatment in airline baggage handlers, railway & shipping experiences, along with extreme weather conditions, snow & heat, & has come out relitvely unscathed, with just a few souvenired dents & scratches..
So, without compromising on quality, for a wonderful all round versatile case, have a good look at these, then if budget does not permit, work your way down to a Samsonite., or similar quality.
I know this is a bit of a rant.. But always consider the 'precious" contents of your luggage- if you value these! , & invest in a substantial piece of equipment that will last the distance.. Have fun travelling!
