Hi guys

I have a SIN-SYD-SIN ticket at present, booked in T class. The SIN-SYD leg of the ticket has already been flown.

I want to change the SYD-SIN leg to SYD-HKG and have been advised by the call centre that it's okay to do so (they'll just combine half of a SIN-SYD and SYD-HKG T class fare).

My question is -- which POS do they use to determine availability on the SYD-HKG segment? Is it POS AU or POS SG or POS HK?

The reason I'm asking is because there's no T class availability ex-SYD on the dates that I want, only ex-HKG. I'm not sure if calling the HKG call centre instead (which I believe routes to Australia anyway) of the SYD one would make a difference here?

Thanks for all your help guys. Appreciate it!

I am not sure if fare bucket availability is geo-location specific. I reckon they'll have to move you to the next fare bucket up (with availability); which also means you'll have to cover the fare difference.

I thought it wasn't with QF as well but trying to make a booking online confirms that it is POS specific.

On qf.com, when booking SYD-HKG-SYD, there's no T class on the SYD-HKG leg whereas booking HKG-SYD-HKG, there is.

I guess I will have to shell out for an upfare to R then... :(

Re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

I have seen Qantas using location dependent availability before. Friend of mine wanted to take advantage of J sale from MEL-LAX RT last year. No availability in I class for the dates he wanted when booking on QF website. I checked expertflyer and saw I class availability so since the fare did not have any sales restrictions I got him to book on expedia.com (US site) and he was ticketed for 4 people in $US at the equivalent fare.

In terms of ringing up some agents have the ability to log on to a machine that is set to a different location (This sets a different ticketing location and if you look at the e-ticket the address at the top will identify this - I have been offered pricing in GBP / AUD / EUR for a fare departing FRA in the past). I think you need to be speaking to a supervisor and be very specific in your request (Saying you want to pay the difference in the currency of where the availability exists from will most likely fix the availability issue without letting them know what you are trying to achieve). I am not sure if they will let you pay in HKD for a ticket that was ticketed originally through SIN office but worth a try.

Thanks mikew for your response. Appreciate it!

I think the two agents I spoke to on the phone were pretty insistent and basically just said "there is nothing available in T" and that "you won't be able to tell the fare class from the website" even when I tried to hint that I managed to find T class availability ex-HKG on their website. Also, ITA Matrix seems to indicate that both THKAU (ex-HKG) and TL50HK (ex-SYD) fares can only be sold in their respective origin countries.
