In light of the "offer" that QF is making to upgrade even discounted fares, I now have to opportunity to upgrade.

There are 3 of us (me, Mrs VC, and 4yo VC) flying SYD-LAX. We are in the 744 outbound and on the 380 returning. Outward flight departure time is1000hrs and the return is 2200hrs

We are already locked in to ABC seats mid cabin (i.e. far away as possible from galleys or toilets) which is good as we have both window and aisle.

We really require to be all seated together, so an upgrade will put us in centre section seats.

I have sufficient point to upgrade both legs to PE, or one leg only to J.

Any suggestions?

Are you squirreling away your points for something else? or you are quite happy to burn them?
What is your QFF status?
When is the approx date of travel? (so we can give you a potential guide to if upgrade would be successful or not)

Getting 3 people in a single upgrade can be tricky, but then stranger things have happend.

As for if it was worthwhile, personally I would do J on the way over so you are roaring and ready to hit uncle Disney right between the eyeballs. Then Y on the way home, usually im that tired coming out of LAX late I sleep well in any class.

Put in upgrades for both, requesting J but happy to drop down to Y+ if J unavailable. If the upgrade on the way out comes through cancel the upgrade coming back (or drop the upgrade coming back down to Y+ if you still have enough points for that).

AFAIK they only determine if you have enough points at the point in time that the upgrade gets processed (usually fairly close to departure)

Well, my decision has just been made by the look.
I put in the request to upgrade the return (due to Mrs VC working the day after we return).
We only just worked out that we could afford J one way AND Y+ the other, but our outbound flight now has "no upgrades available" next to it.
Maybe they withdrew the offer (maybe it shouldn't have even been available to everyone and they fixed it).
