Hi All, I have decided to move from Qantas points to the Velocity universe. I have lots of qantas points and can't use them, so hoping by now building up Velocity points I will have more choice.I have just got a Coles Flybuys Mastercard which is a good little points earner up to $3000 p/m.
What card do you recommend I get to compliment Coles card?:
Requirements:
- annual fee below $300
- international travel insurance for me and 2 kids when buying flights/accom.
- decent Velocity points earn ratio, with minimum 4000 points to be earned each month before capping.
- bonus points for joining great but not a deal breaker.
thanks.

Slightly above your budget but the best card is Amex Velocity Platinum. I moved from QFF to VVF about a year ago, via this card and find it fab. It has useful benefits as add ons.

I would also look out for the Amex Velocity Plat...preferably with about 100k sign up points. Not only would that offset the annual fee but the card also includes an annual complimentary return domestic flight.

It's a pity that Coles Mastercard is about to start charging international transaction fees.

Just a heads up, I do find VFF's redemption availability better than QFF but you'll still need to be strategic about how you make redemptions especially if your plan is to make redemptions on long haul sectors with family. If you found this a challenge with QFF, you'll probably still find it a challenge with VFF.

Virgin Money VA Velocity High Flyer card is decent as a Visa. It's just gone up to $329 p.a. but you get a $129 credit to your Travel Bank each year. 1 pt per $ up to $8k per month, and they also just introduced bonus SCs on VA flights purchased on the card. Also get 2 pts/$ spent on VA. Only slightly worse than the 1.25 pts/$ and bonus 1 pt on VA spend on the Amex Velocity Platinum.

I switched my Amex Velocity Platinum to the Platinum Edge just as it looked like VA was about to go belly-up during COVID, and haven't felt the need to switch it back. I found the free-flight with the Amex Velocity Platinum too restrictive. I only use the Amex PE at shops for the extra pts earn and I'll transfer them to Velocity when they have bonus transfer offers.
