I can attest it is relatively common in Melbourne. I have personally been on a train that hit a person, as was Mr. ShelleyB in a separate incident.
 
Absolutely trains hitting people is common. It tends to get reported as delays and police indecent without specifics.
I’d meant the statement about retribution for accidents in rural areas was a thing, in Aus.
 
On my ATC course back in the day we were shown a short film about train drivers and the PTSD they suffer after hitting someone. We were then shown a film on explosive decompression and the effects on passengers at the window that fails, it came close to giving me PTSD!
 
From what I understand, here in Melb when they say there's a "trespasser" on the tracks as a reason for delays etc, more often than not said trespasser is not alive...

Yes. The code in Perth is "incident", as opposed to "technical issues" when there actually are problems with trains/track

Whether she knew or not about the drugs her treatment is cruel. Not allowed to speak to her family for nearly 2 years and although she id due in court today she still can't talk to them even though they will be present.
Yeah, not allowing family visits after 2 years is probably worse than China.

Japan doesn't look as cute and fluffy as Hello Kitty anymore.
 
They are 2 very different things.
It remains that wrongful convictions occurs worldwide regardless of the methods used to mitigate against wrongful convictions. Post conviction acquittal is extremely difficult. Many sit in jail for decades before their acquittal.
This is not to be taken as exculpatory for Japan.
