@SeatBackForward are the international adaptors cheap eBay ones or something of a better quality?

@Buzzard I got those ones off AliExpress, from China - so they'd be essentially the same as eBay quality. But I'm pleasantly surprised at how robust they are, I've certianly had more flimsy ones sold by "brand" names. That said - I have no idea how compliant they are with Electrical standards - although I do see similar ones on the US Amazon site.

Here's another thought. I was hunting @p--and--t 's USB plug on Amazon (which I subsequently bought because it looked good for the price, thanks @p--and--) , and started surfing as you do. And before long found packing cubes/vacuum bags. Have seen these before online and in shops but never really got around to experimenting with them.

Wondering if anyone has tried them and if they're worth the effort or more hassle than benefit? Did you stick with them or drift back to your old habits of throwing everything in and sitting on the lid?

I used vacuum bags a lot, the type you roll up, not the ones needing the appliance. They work best with compressible clothing like jackets/jumpers, softer clothing. Not so well with stiffer materials like jeans. But they do a good job as long as you don't try to pack too much into them, better to have two seperate bags than one crammed up. I also used to take one with a change of clothes in my carry-on personal item - a laptop bag, and having them compressed into this smaller bag worked well.

One problem with them is that your clothes will need to be ironed once you get them out. But i dont mind ironing so its not an issue for me.

Packing cubes are good too, but I prefer the compression variety, I mainly use the eagle creek pack-it range for this. Again, the trick is to not try to put too much into them, and use the roll-up method.

I like using USB to charge all my devices when travelling. I use a Surface Pro as my main laptop and the default power pack that comes with it is nice and small, but unfortunately the USB port on it is next to useless as its a low power output port. So I've been investigating how to reduce the number of power packs I take with me and have just gotten myself a Satechi charger also:

75W Dual Type-C PD Travel Charger

I'm going to use this with my Surface Pro 6 using a USB-C Cable such as this:

Which leaves one more USB-C port for use on other devices, plus the USB-A ports also!

I'm combing the above with a Powerpack that is capable to producing the 45W that the Surface Pro requires also:

And to top it all off, I keep some international adapters for UK/US/Europe such as these ones. No matter which type of universal adapter I've tried, they always seem useless, and I return to simply carrying these. The good feature of these is being able to plug my charger into the smaller slots, leaving the main universal plug for other gadgets (or lending them the slot to others in lounges who can't find their own adapters!)

I can do a more detailed write-up of my setup if anyone is interested.

At a cursory glance, it appears there are a few USB-C hubs that offer power supply and data exchange in one. If a hub has additional USB ports, display output and network adapter and of course enough power supply, you've effectively replicated the Surface Dock, but in a more portable format. No wonder Microsoft have begrudgingly released this!

I'll just wait for the Chinese knockoffs, same functionality at a fraction of the cost!
