Who gets AIR Magazine?

I have no idea how this works.

Last year I was well over PG, but I thought that maybe it was based on QF revenue (had about 40% QF revenue flights and 60% other OW carriers).

This year I am 50% through my year and 15SCs short of requalifying for WP (i.e. 1185 SCs). I've had 2 flights on BA and 2 flights on AA, and everything else has been QF, so definately a much better revenue year for QF.

The year prior to last year was around 1500SCs, mostly on QF, but maybe not enough to make it into the top 1%.

No Air for me.

That raises a good point, while some can argue that travel in J or F might be corporate, so the revenue is not directly attributed to you. If it were based solely on SC, the vast majority of those SC's could come from flying other OW airlines.

There could be a very intricate system for selecting who gets the magazine each quarter.

I'm still guessing it's CL's + very high status credit balance WPs.

The majority of my SC earn would've come from OW airlines last year...with not a whole lot going to QF, yet I've gotten the first three issues of Air with ~3,500+ SC's.

I think it just goes on SC earn, with probably anything under 3,000 or so not quite being enough. Thoughts?

Of course, perhaps it's completely random and QF are having a good old laugh at us trying to work it out in this thread.

Cheers,
- Febs.

... Over the last three years I've been earning 2000+ SC's so perhaps that may be one reason.
SC's may be a part of it but not the only criteria.

I have averaged nearly 2800 SC's over the last three years and do not receive it.

I have averaged around 2,200 per year for 3 years and have received all editions.

I still think that the system is not nearly as sophisticated as some seem to think.

I also doubt it is that sophisticated...

I get it (and bin it 5 minutes later). I have been platinum for five years, but only once over partner gold level. Looking at around 6000 SC's this year though so that should keep me on the mailing list a while longer....

For those that think it's "not that sophisticated" - how do you think it works?

It's obviously not just based on status credits earned in a year.

Based on QF revenue? based on random sampling?

I have received 3 issues so far.. I finished last year just shy of 4K SC's, 60-70% of those achieved on OW J flights. I have to say, I find nothing in there of any interest to me and I wish I could say im one of the people with +$2M in investments. The original letter that came with issue #1, said it was top 3% of QFF's that received it. So based on my SC's being mostly OW carrier gained, id say it must be based on SC's.

We are all speculating here and until we have a genuine QF employee who really knows we can all continue to assume things.

I think people are reading way too much on the criteria used for the mailing list. It can be any number of factors and anytime someone makes a guess and it is disproven by someone else that theory goes out the window. Perhaps in a way it is random or based on spend or SCs earned in a year or lifetime SCs or a combination of all of them. But then I am guessing like everyone else.

I received issue #1 and I would be extremely surprised if I was anywhere near the top 3% of Chairmans Lounge or Platinums.

Methinks they may be basing it on SC's earned travelling QF. The majority of my annual SC total come from non QF flights. (Even though the majority of my flights are on QF).

I think all CL get it and the top tier of WP.
Sorry for repeating myself but I would still be extremely surprised if I was anywhere near the top tier Platinums. First year as Platinum I managed 1400SCs exactly with second year just over 1200SCs and this year just over 1200SCs again. I am almost certain this is not the criteria to get me top tier Platinum....

Of course, this is speculation, but John, don't most of your SC come from regular flights SYD-BNE? If so, then you might be ahead of people that are WP and spent more in OW, but very little of that is on QF itself.

Hey JohnK,

There's evidence of the factors that influence the distribution lists, as per samh004's post previously.

You are probably right but it is only in the last 10 months that the majority of my SCs come from SYD-BNE flights. Before that it was a mixture of BA WT+, AY/CX I class BKK-SIN and even a KUPP/YUPP that made up the majority of SCs earned.

Anyway I am not complaining but I find it hard to comprehend that I would be in the top bracket of QFFers. Also that reader profile is nowhere near accurate in describing my savings, income or spending....

Perhaps the selection criteria has been refined to weed you out

That is some heavy duty flying! In J and F I assume? RTW flights?
