Just wondering who uses the lounge after they land at destination.

I have NEVER been after landed, always rushing off with carry on to beat the migrating flock to get to the taxi stand !

To be honest I never thought I could use my QP when landing .. hmm  maybe one day I will go and freshen up, then if I had checked luggage, it might actually be waiting when I got downstairs  !

I thought anytime access is required to be able to access the Qantas Lounge on arrival.

Anyway I use the Qantas lounge, if it is still open, after I land in SYD as it normally takes my father 20-25 mins to get to the ariport and my luggage is normally waiting for me at the carousel and in BNE I will either get the airtrain or Coachtrans so no need to rush to the taxi queues.

I tend to do it if I'm travelling luggage free.

I'll pop in (at night) for a beer or 2, and maybe some nibbles. If I have luggage waiting at the carousel, I'll normally skip it and just go to the baggage carousel.

That said, if you are in one of the first rows on your plane, you have enough time to visit the QP, drink a beer (or surf the internet/print documents), and then casually stroll to baggage and your bag might be ready to appear...

If you leave your bag too long though, ground staff often collect it, then may call you and/or leave it in Baggage Services for you to collect.

I used to visit QP after landing quite a bit in CBR, (coming from MEL). Flight timetables didn't always match with meeting timings so often would have half an hour to an hour spare - so would visit QP on landing. Also in winter it would be common to build a fog delay factor into arrangements - and if no fog that would leave time to kill.

Pretty sure that is the case... everyone else must have an onward journey with Qantas that day

Hmm.. I think we need an expert like serfty in this discussion.

Is this for SG/QC or only WP's?

Doesn't the wording say 'day of travelling'?

The domestic QP is a departure lounge, for paid members, J pax, and QF/OW status flyers departing on QF that day. The only people who have 'anytime' access are QF WPs.

I do in the mornings in SYD T2 after a JQ flight - it has nearly become a routine now - off flight, QP to use pit stop, coffee, grab a banana or apple then out to get my luggage...

Mr!

:)

I have never done this and I think it is unlikely that I will unless I start flying to MEL the night before (which is unlikely). On the way home I just want to get home and generally have "filled up" on the flight sufficiently ;)

I can also confirm the international QP is a departure lounge even for QF WP's, and you must hold a boarding pass for a departing flight - for WP's any airline - and not an arriving flight. Although after being told that, they let me in anyway.:p

I have used the QP on arrival and have simply shown my BP from the flight which I have just disembarked. I am sure that the T&Cs used to say something vague about being able to access on day of departure - which was interpreted to mean in any port. I even once rang (a number of years ago) to enquire if I could access on arrival even if I didn't have another flight and was told yes.

I just had a look at the current T&Cs and they now say:

10.1 Qantas Club Members are entitled to access The Qantas Club lounge in the departure port when the Member's next onward flight on that day is with Qantas, a QantasLink or Jetstar service.

Interestingly, I could not find anything in the T&Cs for the FF program or the QP that allowed access at other times - even for WP. So I'd suggest there is some flexibility.

All that the FF T&Cs say is:

20.1.7 Complimentary Qantas Club membership for the period a Member maintains Gold and Platinum status level is provided subject to The Qantas Club Terms and Conditions.

My impression is that 'anytime' access for WPs is an "unpublished benefit", much like being able to pre-allocate exit rows, etc.

For the less exalted amongst us you do technically have to have an onward QF/partner flight that day to access the QP, but I have found in the past that the boarding pass from your just-arrived flight will almost always get you in.

I wasn't aware I could access the lounge on arrival. I thought that was solely for WP's...

I use it all the time after landing...

Seriously, when have QP staff *EVER* actually taken notice of anything on your DOMESTIC boarding pass except for the status? (normal QP only, not biz lounge where they seem to check it)

Intl ive never been into where they havnt scanned the boarding pass so that counts those lounges out.

The benefit was unpublished until Qantas did away with single use guest cards in June 2004.

Then for about 18 months WP anytime access was indeed advertised. However this web page was removed and there was no available publication of this benefit for a year or two.

Late 2007 this benefit was again published as per the links above.

This was in line with the April 1st 2008 change where WP's no longer had anytime access to International First Class Qantas Lounges and would not have this access to the soon to be opened Domestic J lounges either.

Note that when I joined the QP in 1994, the rule was a member had "to be flying that day with Qantas" so the QP's could be used for both departures and arrivals.

This changed approximately a year later to "QF departures" (surely not solely due to my membership :p).

Have used SYD J-Lounge a few times this year after landing on BNE-SYD flights to jump on lengthy conference calls and plugin my laptop.

Certainly not normal practice however.

Note that this anytime access is to the QP & not the J lounge.
At the moment QF Platinums have anytime access to the Domestic Business Lounges at BNE and SYD.

I am not sure what is happening in MEL, as we are getting conflicting reports about anytime access, but they are not really part of Australia so it is irrelevant. :p ;)

Not by rule, more by indifference ...

In MEL ½ the time they want to see my BP, other times they just wave me through.
