We have about a year to choose. Current Chairman Richard Goyder will also be influential in the choice. :)

What will he be looking for?

A long termer? (Qantas Chairs usually are) or a short term 'change agent'?
A safe pair of hands?
A Goyder clone?
A 'compromise candidate' - fundies will be offering their opinions
A soft hand on the tiller, or someone to work actively with Hudson?

Here are a few names that might be in the mix:

Jillian Broadbent

Meg O'Neill

Christine O'Reilly

Longer odds - Christine Holgate.

AFR commentary here: Richard Goyder finally goes, with one vital task to come

There’s a restricted club of company directors who sit on all the boards, about 2500 people I am let to believe. No board is game to choose anyone outside the club in fear if being detrained from the gravy train.

My predictions for the board are:
  • Jeff Smisek (former CEO of United Airlines & Alleged Criminal)
  • Gladys Berijiklian (former PM of New South Wales & Alleged Criminal)
  • Gina Cass-Gottlieb (chair of the ACCC and not an alleged criminal to my knowledge. this would be the pick to get regulators off their back)
