Whoops... what did you forget you had?

Pair of nail scissors in my wash bag at BNE - forgot they were in there from my last international trip when I checked a bag. Must have had them in my carry-on for 4 or 5 domestic trips since. Not sure how they could have been missed; BNE security pointed them out to me on the x-ray screen and they were showing up clear as day.

I work on at a remote minesite and always travel HLO to/from work. A couple of years ago when I was going through security at Perth my bag gets pulled to one side.

Old mate the security guard ferrets around indeterminately for a very long period of time, without pulling anything out.

I'm getting frustrated ( Thirsty too ) , thinking to myself " Just pull one item out at a time champ, and don't put it back in the bag - You'll find what you're looking for eventually".

After a while I say exactly that, much to the Supervisor's glee who had been having a great time watching his fool subordinate go round in circles.

Old mate eventually finds not one, not two, but three steel bread and butter knives which I've obviously just hurled in my bag for lunch/dinner and plain forgotten about.

"Bugger me", thinks I - what then completely blew my mind was old mate then put them BACK IN MY BAG, in full view of said Supervisor, and waved me on. Gobsmacked to say the least. Needless to say I just put them on the bench in the QP.
