Even though the QF11 on Friday 12AUG is showing A380 along with the QF17 787 service in the booking systems this is not updated yet...QF17 will be cancelled and the QF11 will be a 787-9 with revised departure time of 19:05 and arriving at LAX at 15:50...
The VIP services team has been proactive calling their P1 and CL pax to offer alternatives - this is why you're seeing all the flights closed as they are sorting out these people first and will then "publish" the revised schedules. A380 is still planned to operate on 11AUG and 13AUG.
I received 'that call' from the VIP team re: QF11 for travel on 11/8. I was booked in F (in 1A, no less - scored the unicorn of all unicorn F award seats
), and advised the aircraft would swap from the A380 to the B787 well before it went public in the booking system.
They had enormous power to do just about anything to re-accommodate me in whatever way I wanted to fly (except in F, which wouldn't exist even if I rerouted). So because I'd only just flown J on the B787 and wanted some variety, I asked them for SYD-BNE-LAX in J (737+A330), on flights where they literally only had 'J' class fares available for sale. Not a problem... click, click, click, bang, seats opened and booking created in U class. Checked the one-way fare price for the itinerary I'd shifted to and it was over $13,000! Of course, the difference in points between F and J was refunded very quickly too.
(Alternatively, I could have stayed on SYD-LAX non-stop and flown J on the 787... but I don't know what would have happened to other pax as the flight was already oversold in J. I suspect that some other poor person would have been downgraded too! At least on my SYD-BNE-LAX proposal they were actually still selling the same flights, so wouldn't disrupt anybody else.)
But, after all that, I've just cancelled the SYD-BNE-LAX itinerary they booked for me as I no longer need to travel this week.
I would have gone if I were still in F... but in J, well, not quite as exciting as a 'just because' trip.
