Why are airfares now so High?

Did you try leaving on Christmas Day? A bargain is often to be had then.
Actually tried 23 December but should have tried Christmas Day.

P.S. Tried Christmas Day but no change in airfare. Suspect only flexible booking classes left for travel that time of the year.

Think it will be like this for quite some time until airlines catch up with demand.

Its a purely supply and demand issue
Notice that airlines are not imposing "fuel levies" with the explosion in fuel costs?. Thats because the high fares are covering all that.

Im helping by not flying unless I really need to. Gots lots of popcorn watching all the airport and airline entertainment from an armchair

Cheeky but you're not helping. If you got out and flew they will put on more aircraft and airfares will drop.

I just can't bring myself to spend close to $5000 for 3 economy airfares.

Looks SQ may have had a sale last week as airfares are now $200+ per person more expensive.

Re the imposition of ‘fuel fines”, there must be another reason. I’ve never heard of an airline, especially our lovely local one, missing an opportunity to gouge its customers. That is, with an ‘expected' fuel fine.

I’m also not flying - domestic starts in a month and international (quick, simple revenue itinerary) In November.

Fuel fines are already there just included. When airfares start to fall he will likely add more fuel fines on top of the included fuel fines.

Completely safe as it is non ionising energy. In other words, does not damage cells
LOL. Medically it's safe. That's about all.

Future of air travel cannot continue expecting travellers to get to airport 5 hours early to stand in security queues.

I don't feel any safer, more stressed actually and will have to start asking for wheelchair assistance as I cannot stand in a queue for any length of time.

If works wonders. I’ve seen people have to be wheeled on to aircraft and then at the end of the flight they are able to walk off unaided 👍
That's not unusual or cheating since many people with mobility issues can walk for short distances but not through the kilometers to / from the gate.

Except there are those “miracle flights” - often seen in the US.

Wheelchair onto aircraft - first to board obviously. Then miraculously at the other end they are able to stand up get their own carry on from the overhead and off they go because wheelchair off means last to leave the aircraft. I’ve followed a few of these miracles in the past. Their walking pace was brisk all the way to luggage claim then out of the airport pushing a luggage trolley😂

That would require planning!
It's not just planning, but that desire to squeeze out 5.5% profit rather than 5.4%. I guess if you treat employees as just numbers on a page, then customers can't be treated any better.

I looked at Australia to LAX and it was $1,400? Europe seemed more expensive. I guess it varies on the dates? I'm use to booking further ahead.

I think airlines will open more flights as time goes on.

I've been running a personal data project where each day I ping Amadeus for the best fares for a set of City pairs. My little project looks a range of destinations and answers "With 60days notice, where is the best value place to travel?" (of my shortlisted locations)

All fares started rising from 29 May departures

BNE-MAN J Fares - have climbed since February (yellow on my chart)
BNE-MAN Y Fares - climbed in June, came back and climbing again (light blue)
BNE-LHR Y Fares - climbed to June then started declining but yet back to to February fare (light blue)
BNE-LAX Y Fares - have always had a competitive fare

The BNE-LAX is problematic for me. There is always one of the operator punting in a $2k return fare although any single operator will have fares trending up as dates approach. The PR fare via MNL also distorts things. I saw QF fares start at $2,700 for my particular Y itin and are now at $3,800 for the same dates. But in the end I found AC at $2k for the same itin and dates.

I lost a bulkhead on a 767 SYD-MEL to an elderly lady who had just arrived from USA and needed wheelchair assistance.

She had one of the only vacant seats next to her on the flight and was nowhere to be seen when we disembarked. Apparently she had a tight connection to ADL and left everyone behind getting off the aircraft.

I got a business class upgrade on next flight for the inconvenience caused.
