Why are there so many DYKWIAs

I had no idea displaying bag tags meant you're a DYKWIA ?

My bag tag sits at the top of the bag (only spot with a handle). How should I drag my bag around so it doesn't look like I am "showing it off"?

Someone does have a problem.

What death stares? Why get your blood pressure worked up by a stranger who you may not see again and has no impact on your life.

None of this will be an issue if you arrive at the boarding gate after everyone has boarded.

And occasionally I am caught out behaving the same as the behaviour I criticise. We're not perfect.

Just having the tags on your bag is not DYKWIA behaviour - you need to have something with your name on it so it can be ID'd if it's lost, so it may as well be the ones the airline gives you. The QF RFID ones make sense in case you ever need to check your rolly. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

It's the ones who fiddle with the tags and and ensure the SG/WP side is displayed, and pointedly show it off as they cut into a line that are DYKWIA w@nkers.

I simply cannot do this. My fathers obsession with never being late :o. Although one time I completely misjudged where the lounge in HK was to my gate - I had no idea I had to catch a train to get there - and was the very last to board. By a long shot. Lucky I was in J and didn't have to face the masses in my embarrassment.

If tags are the issue with being a DYKWIA then pretty much everyone is.

It’s not just VA, we have them at QF also I wouldn’t limit the net to SG, WP can be worse. I am too lazy to change the QF RFID luggage tags so depending on what bag I use it could be any one of the 4 QF colours they all do the same thing. When going through security I just pick the shortest line.

I did have an occasion a while back when a SG felt it was their duty to police the priority boarding lane. The individual felt obligated to inform me that the priority boarding was for SG and WP and PS should be in the general line (I assume they caught a glance at boarding pass on the phone), I just thanked him for letting me know and remained in line. Not happy with my inaction to move over to general boarding the individual made some comments to his travelling partner and had another go. This time I was informed that if I wanted to use the priority boarding I should get some real flying time under my belt and earn the right to use the priority boarding, then continued with other mutterings and similar comments.

I normally do not get too fussed by other travellers however I had enough so I just put the phone back in my bag and pulled out my P1 card for boarding, as he glared at the white card I just casually mentioned that sometimes it can be a bit difficult to notice the colour difference between a PS and P1 on a phone unless you are familiar with them. Nothing more was said. You run into all types, it’s just a part of travelling.

This has really made my day..Denali.LMFAO...I subsribe to you're theory....let every mof_ know just how important you are if it floats youre boat.....if slavery hadnt been abolished..I'd have a few drop petals at my feet before embarking that flight...heck-if an elephant could fit through the security scanner I'd ride it to all the way to my seat..but thats just me..sorry to anyone who witnesses the future event...don't judge..I'd just be excited to be amongst you high flying eagles with your priority boarding..

It's just a tag. It sits on hand luggage that might be stored in the hold. If I take it off for hand luggage then it has to go somewhere doesn't it. Like my handbag which is likely already crammed with ithingies etc for the flight.

The priority queue the other day was much longer than the normal one so I went into that.

I do reckon the people in the priority queue thought that maybe they should have been processed first but they had their own queue. I did make sure I showed my card so they didn't chop in on me. :p

So you pushed in front of everyone doing the right thing?

Theres another thread somewhere about the new WP tags and a lot of people, myself included for hubby, was contacting VA to get new pretty tags.

If you arent putting them on your bags, why order them?

Edit: If Im caught looking at your bag, its because Im actually looking at your bag. The type, the size, zippers, wondering how much it weighs empty ect.

The question for me is why would anyone put a tag on their hand luggage except to be a dykwia?

The best ones to watch on Virgin are the guys with qantas platinum tags who end up down the back somewhere. Some of them handle it with class. Many don't.
It's nice to observe human behaviour sometimes.

People certainly can be strange, self centred selfish creatures-speeding up to not let people merge in traffic, using emergency lanes to cut in front and then expecting people to let them in, darting off down a side street to get in front of the queue to again cut in front..

Well, if you have to ask that question, obviously YD'tKWIA.

(ps, seriously, one obvious answer is that a well used carry-on, when carried-on in the USA, may become a gate-checked bag therefore needing a tag ;) but being a DYKWIA helps, too)

spacebar

Because the old Velocity card sucked and I use to use the luggage tag when accessing US lounges because it has the logo.

Because small domestic planes often dont have room for a standard carry on and you have to gate check it.

Because I like having some sort of ID on my bag without giving someone my home address.

Because its pretty.

I just like luggage tags???
Ironically the ones on my HLO are not current..... but I just have them on there because I don't know I wanted to bedazzle my bag....

Because every now and then the bag is taken off you at the door of the plane to go in thew hold - has happened to me a couple of times, especially if a Dash8 is involved in the PNR, but even on a heavily loaded A320 or B737.

I may have to dust off my AN GW luggage tags and use them, will this still qualify me in the DYKWIA stakes.

I think you are onto something, OWE = Green Smiley Face, OWS = Blue Smiley Face. Yes I also know I am in a Virgin thread and they are not part of OW.
