Why book QF codes on JQ flights?

On the weekend, I had a look at some fares MEL-HNL for some relatives (via SYD of course). In comparing fares, I did notice that flights on QF metal were not that different in price to flights booked through JQ on JQ metal. However I did notice that flights booked on the QF website using the QF codeshare on JQ metal cost $200 more than exactly the same flights using the JQ code booked through the JQ site. It is clear that flights booked using the QF codeshare do not earn any QF points (apart from the 2000 pts on the MEL-SYD/vv sectors) and further when clicking on the flight details it indicates that Meals are "Available for Purchase". Which makes me think that ignorance would be the only reason anyone would book such flights. Any other reason?

Can you use QF coded JQ services on any of the oneworld explorer tickets?

No. For a while, OWEs starting outside of SWP could use JQ, but not any more

Unfortunately no. I was working on a OWE RTW and when talking to the QF consultant she said that you can't book codeshare flights in terms of the OWE rules. Having checked, she is right.

I think they used to provide food and comfort items for QF-numbered JQ flights, and I think they were booked under JetFlex conditions.

However they don't do this anymore so it is confusing that someone would buy a QF codeshare JQ flight for the price difference you indicated.

I know that all QFF awards on JQi flights are QF numbered. I have a flight in Starclass on JQ29 to BKK but its booked as a business class award on QF265.

Purchase a QF flight on JQ metal in WHY - you get complimentary meals and one or two free drinks [edit: longer -see subsequent post].

Book an award flight (QF flight number) on JQ metal and nothing is complimentary.

I have a suspicion that this has changed in recent times as per stuartfaz's comment above. The latest 'official' information I can find is:

"International Long Haul Services

Two inflight meal services (one for a shorter flight to DPS) are provided for commercial Qantas codeshare customers as well as all non-alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.

Each passenger is also provided with a complimentary bottle of water. Any additional refreshments and drinks are available for purchase.

Qantas codeshare customers are also provided with a headset for viewing the overhead video screen and audio as well as a complimentary blanket however, Qantas codeshare passengers are not provided with the whole blanket pack.
"
but, I'm pretty sure things have changed recently.

You used to be able to fly JQ on global explorer, but not ow explorer tickets (as of May 2007). I was booked on a DRW-SIN flight but ended up changing it to DRW - BOM.

I recently made a RTW booking for May this year, but now you can't fly JQ on either ticket. It makes it interesting flying ex Darwin on RTW, you now either have to fly to a southern capital to connect to asia, or to CNS to fly to NRT or HKG.

I've elected to fly QFLink to CNS, QF to NRT and BA to LHR.

The last QF international flight left darwin this week, QF123, SYD-DRW-BOM. It's now flying direct.

They seem to have forgotten what the "NT" in QANTAS stands for.

They still operate domestic services from Darwin. The letters in Qantas actually stand for nothing these days since the company is Qantas Airways LTD

I think the change was that it now flies non-stop.

Come again? non-stop means the same thing as direct.

They still manage to play on the Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Service name when it suits them though :!:

I have read here before (can't find the post) that "non-stop" is just that, eg MEL-SIN without stopping in between, whereas "direct" is without a change of flight number or plane (eg. MEL-SIN-LHR on a single plane and flight number is a direct flight MEL to LHR, but is not a non-stop flight MEL to LHR.

Or something like that. :)

Whilst you may be right, that is a really poor use of the English language.

With images all around the world, the children's choir, Whitehaven Beach, Uluru and "I still call Australia home." How that nearly changed last year!

Direct can also include a change of aircraft, though it is not common for QF to do this. It is more common for some other airlines to have a multi-stop direct flight with a change of aircraft.

One example of a QF direct flight with a change of aircraft or QF73 MEL-SYD-SFO, where the MEL-SYD is often operated by a 2-class 744 and the SYD-SFO is a 3-class aircraft.

Another example was when QF used to operate QF8 as LAX-SYD-BNE, with a 744 morphing to a 737 for the SYD-BNE leg.
