Why can't I get row 3 anymore?

Was 3A your initial allocation and/or did you change it?

Are you suggesting auto-allocation may not 'stick' unless you go in and perform the allocation yourself? I vaguely recall that happening to me once and being told I needed to do it myself to ensure it stuck.

I just checked a DJ booking I have and on the first screen under 'Seating' it said 'Not selected' or similar. But on the next screen it showed 3C, along with advice that I had been seated according to my preference.

So moved myself from and back to 3C, then saved it, and on the first screen it now says 3C where previously it said 'Not selected' :)

(The only boarding door on the ATRs is at the rear - although that *might* vary between -500s and -600s, if they are in service yet).
I am led to believe by a reliable source (that I cannot name at this time) that all the ATRs will now be back door loading. The concept of the -600 having front loading is apparently gone.

On a recent HBA flight I preselected 3A t-14 days. I was reallocated to 4A. Minor issue, but it still annoyed me. It seems to be occurring ever frequently going by these posts.
Did you go through the full process of seat selection? I have found that if a seat is allocated and then you do not go through and do the selection that it sometimes changes. I have never had one change after doing the full selection.

That is what I was saying in the previous post.

Once selected it tends to stick better if you change it at least once (you can change it back immediately).

It usually sticks for me as long as I go through the payment processing page whether I have changed it or not.

Important to click the continue button to lock the seats in. So far have always been preselected 3a for me and 3b for my partner.Never had any other seats show as allocated when selecting seats at 14days out. So my question is am I the only status pax who has booked so far at 14 days out or the first to confirm the seat selection. Otherwise who gets prefference.

I suspect the pre-selection may need positive action to "stick". I was pre-selected 3F on a BNE-MEL flight in a couple of weeks. Mrs Aus ATC is on the same flight (different PNR) and when I went to preselect her seat, I could see 3F as available (I had not yet confirmed it for myself). I have now positively selected both our seats.

I don't believe any seat pre-selection occurs until either general seat allocation occurs in the day or so before the flight or you (as an SG/WP) or an agent brings the booking up within the 14 days - only then does an algorithm operate to pick the 'best' seat remaining based on your profile(s).

So if you have a clear selection, then I am thinking you would be the first SG/WP to access the flight booking within T-14 days.
Initial allocation by Virgin automatically..

I didn't change it as I was happy with it

Next time I'll change it to something else, then change it straight back
Seems like a plan ;)

I can only recall one out of the last 30 or so flights where I was given anything frtheback than row 3. That one flight I was allocated row 7 at time of booking, collected bp at lounge, still row 7. 15 minutes before boarding, called to counter and provided with row 1. Now I kind of hope for a seat allocation further back in the hope of another upgrade, complete with all the perks. Was mel to cbr fyi.

To give you some history,

I'm BIS Platinum that for the last 18 months has done around 200 flights with Virgin. I would have around 4000 SC's had it not been for Family Pooling.

Over the last 6 weeks my travel has dropped to around 1 Rtn flight a week. In the past I would get a row 3 (always A or F) seat on 80-90% of flights.

On the past 8 flights the best I have been able to get is row 7 and on two flights I was Row 20+.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Maybe it is all the status matched pax who, according to many, were supposedly not going to make a difference to any other BIS status travellers experience...

I doubt that is a significant factor - see most of the previous posts in this thread for experiential explanation.

I usually do, although I cannot say 100% for sure that I did for this particular flight. I've got a couple of bookings coming up that I have done this for, though, so we'll see. :P

Booked a flight 3 hours ago for Friday frmo SYD to BNE, flexi as Gold FF, and they allocated me 9C. First non row 3 seat for a while.

Just went in again to look at it, and I saw that 3D was freed up since the booking. Pounce on it I did! :D

Now to see if I can get a chance to change my Sunday flight from 5D, assuming that I don't fly forward..

For me, it generally pays to go online and check periodically as sometimes the seat just becomes available. Not how many would be changing their flight so far out from the date, unless they were upgrading.

What would happen if you were on a SYD OOL that had 20 Plats and 35 Golds. My last CS said she has done of couple of those to the Gold Coast with a large amount of high yeild pax. Bit hard to fit 55 people in row 3.

First in best dressed. As I posted earlier I don't believe much early seat preallocation happens until some actually looks up seating for their booking within the 14 day windown.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Musical chairs? :p

(Well, that's the "Virgin Blue" answer.)
