Why check baggage for medication and not carry on ?

What happens if your bag is lost ?
I'll deal with that situation if it ever arises. Apart from some strong pain killers that I probably shouldn't take overseas anyway everything else is replaceable.

And if needs to be chilled (Insulin, thyroxine), get one of these (< 50hrs) or these (> 50hrs)

No excuses…

Wonder if a Yeti Rambler with the Biogel pack would also suffice for long haul flights? Then you have the bonus of a drink container when it's not carrying your medication, in my case Thyroxine.

I have a friend who is on meds which fall foul of the LAG rules (administered via NGtube), and so he can only take about 24hrs of meds with him on the plane, and the rest have to be in check luggage.

He is currently terrified of either having his bags lost and then not being able to fill script on location, or worse getting sequestered in quarantine without luggage.

Personally I carry 2x the trip length worth of critical medication with me in carry on (mercifully only tablets), and any non-critical in check luggage.

Not the same, the ones I linked have usb power which maintains chill

The non USB Freeze Pack option times are quoted below, I would have thought would be more than enough.

2. Biogel Freeze Pack Only: Keep medicine cool without electricity!

This is the ideal way to keep your meds cool when you don’t have access to electricity. Suppose you’re at the beach, traveling by plane, or spending a few hours in town, and it’s 104°F / 40°C outside. The Biogel Freezing pack cooling method does not require any power source. It works as a super-powerful thermos bottle with the following refrigeration performances:

  • At 104°F / 40°C: the Biogel Freeze pack insulin cooler maintains fridge temperature 36-45°F / 2-8°C for 30 hours and stays cool below 79°F / 26°C for 46 hours.

  • At 95°/ 35°C: the Biogel Freeze pack insulin cooler maintains fridge temperature 36-45°F / 2-8°C for 32 hours and stays cool below 79°F / 26°C for 50 hours.

  • At 86°F / 30°C: the Biogel Freeze pack insulin cooler maintains fridge temperature 36-45°F / 2-8°C for 34 hours and stays cool below 79°F / 26°C for 52 hours.

We include one Biogel freezing pack with each cooler. Customers usually want to keep a second unit in their freezer ready all the time while they have one in use, so they just need to change them and are ready to go anytime! If you need a second one too, you can purchase extra ones here.

Some rather interesting responses.

Some may not really give it any thought until too late. 🤷‍♂️
Some do give it thought. I would rather not have some of my medications in carry on as it may raise eyebrows if searched. It's not illegal but its one less thing I have to worry about.

And @mrsterryn mentioned what if luggage goes missing.

What if the carryon goes missing? What if someone goes through the carry on?

Important medication (xanax, prednisolone, strong pain killer) is in jacket pocket.

Actually come to think of it prednisolone could be illegal in Thailand which is why it's in with the Lasix.

I always have 14 days of medication in my carry on and another 14 days in my checked luggage.
i wouldn’t take Codeine or equivalents overseas.

I have to risk it. Normal pain killers do nothing. Tramadol used to help a long time ago but now does nothing.

Don't know what else to do!

For thyroid medication I use one of these and it goes with my carry on. I put it in the freezer the day before departure

I can't think of any reason that prednisolone would be illegal so should be OK with that.As you know you can get very sick if you stop prolonged steroi_s suddenly too
Can understand concern about opiates and needing to have good documentation for them

I don't take prednisolone regularly. The maximum usage the past few years has been 2 days in a row. I use it for a sledge hammer effect which may well be wrong but no one has offered me a better solution.

There are days where my whole body is tight. Extremely painful and very uncomfortable to the point where even laying down is uncomfortable. Endone is a waste of time. 60mg codeine does very little. Most of the time 12.5mg or 25mg of Prednisolone gives me a little comfort. On the rare occasions this may last 2 days but never longer. The last time I took Prednisolone was 2 weeks ago. Hope it lasts longer.

I don't know what other people experience in life but I have never come across anyone who suffers as badly as I do with inflammation this serious for at least 30 years.
