Why did you wake me up? - Virgin SMS at 5.30am

Virgin changes flight timing very often, and it's one of the reasons I choose not to fly them :)

They will generally send an email about 4-6 weeks out from the flight and then a sms a few weeks out... I should know I have received so many of them

You should get a notification as soon as the schedule/flight changes so you can make alternative plans if needed.

Not sure what Qantas do as I am yet to experience a schedule change :)

I have to say I actually don't mind the changes. At any stage I may have 5-10 return trips booked, and the changes add a lot of flexibility because I can pick any flight of the day! I should note I only travel for leisure.

True that, it does give you good flexibility :)

My extra 3 hrs in HKG (and mrsdoc's 6hrs extra on her outbound journey) upcoming on QF would be the counter point.

I can live with VA's 5 minute time change (which was the last change i had with VA - nearly 20 months ago.....)

On a similar note - I'd like to know why there seems to be a lengthy delay in notifying pax of flight changes.

My flight to BNE on Saturday was cancelled. I received notification of this from Tripit 3.5 hours before Virgin let me know. There was no issue with queuing of SMS because it was the same story with email notification.

The net effect for someone relying solely on Virgin's alerts would be that the option to change to an earlier flight was not viable and only later flights were an option.

When you book a flight some months into the future (well of course you won't be booking into the past...) there could be the possibility of our schedule having tweaks made more than once.
As Docjames mentioned, some flights change by 5 mins, so we will hold off alerting guests until a few weeks out just in case more changes occur.
This is just the best way of handling it (as most airlines will).

You've quoted my post but my question related to notice of a cancellation not a future schedule change.

I have been receiving a few of these SMSes recently but I do not take note of the time SMS received.
