Why Early Checkin for MAS at SIN Doesn't work for Me (& Other Foreigners)

After two failed attempts at early check-in SIN for MAS, I have worked out why it doesn't work (for me), and it makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense is why MAS doesn't tell you why it doesn't work.

As a non-Malaysian passport holder, I require evidence of an onward ticket on that booking to be eligible for early check-in. If I don't have this, it needs to be done manually. So that means moving from the early check-in facility at the Jewel to Terminal 2 and seeing a check-in agent.

What mystifies me is why MAS can't flag this (simple) condition and advise that one is not eligible for early check-in at the Jewel and to proceed directly to Terminal 2.

MAS, you get many things right, such as reinvesting in significant equipment such as new aircraft—in many ways, you bat above your SIA cousin (controversial to a few here). Fixing glitches like this will go a long way.

Both Singapore and Malaysia require onward flight documentation.

I have learned manual check in is generally necessary.

Places most frequented last year for this have been MAS Airport Espres check in at Kuala Lumpur Sentral and SIN T3.

I have encountered similar issues for 3K flights.

I wonder if this is mainly a SIN thing. I was surprised when D7 did OLCI no problems out of Australia despite us using a one way ticket to KUL.

SIN has extremely tight security arrangements - have you checked the ticks on your BP?

I successfully used this facility last year flying SIN-KUL-BKK on a one-way ticket, but I guess Thailand doesn’t have the same manual checking requirement?

The reason behind why you fail onwards travel checks is because it's part of a tool called ADC aka Auto Document Check, which Amadeus carriers can subscribe to, which checks things like you have onward travel etc.

If the ADC check fails, then it denies check in unless it's manually overridden by a human.
