Why the hell would I pay for Centurion Card?

Anyone who realises that it looks and feels cool, and costs less than a bottle of DRC at Per Se.

I guess it's all relative.

Yep, to each his/her own. I think the cost outweighs the benefits.

Also how is QF platinum comparable as this is a frequent flyer program?

I think the comparison is the loyalty element. The user has been "loyal" to Amex so if this were a FF program then they would get extra benefits as a reward for loyalty. In this the reward for loyalty is a bill to let you get extra benefits.

I don't agree with that philosophy personally.

You pay $900pa??? I just ring each year and threaten to cancel the card and they halve the price.

(Probably explains why I haven't received a Centurion invite despite spending way too much pa!)

Ha ha! Guess what arrived in the mail today? They must be inviting everyone!

I filed it in the appropriate receptacle!

(Damn thing won't go down!!)

... or noone...

BTW, I like what you've done with your grouting ;)

You dont return the card.

Really? I thought the card had to be returned so it could be destroyed in the correct manner (cutting with scissors will not produce the desired effect I would presume)... I was told that there is a specialist company that is contracted to do the "destroying"

Not every card that is cancelled or rejected is returned (many are not) however any that are returned are certified as being disposed of (not sure if a 3rd party does it though)

What card? That which comes with invitation is to C F Frost, not personalized to the invitee.

I thought the new welcome kit packaging looked cheap compared to a few years ago, but I didn’t realise they don’t send real cards any more. When I got mine I had both a primary and an a/c card included. All I needed to do was activate them. Of course they were plastic back then so maybe it’s a cost thing? But also it indicates to me that they are probably sending out a lot of invitations that aren’t activated.

That’s gold. I was going to comment that it didn’t look like a Centurion bathroom so it’s probably best if it’s flushed but I didn’t want to be booed off the stage...

I would like to think Amex will have a slightly better chance of acceptance if they issued personalized cards and sent them with the invite. But then, there may be more invitees who keep cards without accepting, activating.

I don't think flushing the invitation pack is in good taste. My view.

Yikes, when Centurion launched in Australia the cards were personalised, sent by courier and delivered in wooden boxes

Do they also give you platinum Priority Club and SPG, cf. Platinum which gives you Gold?

Is CX MPC Diamond automatically given?

I posted in another thread (there are a few)

you get
PC Platinum plus
SPG gold
HHonors Diamond

Not sure about CX diamond..

I think CX Diamond is a new thing... If it applies to the AUS one then I'd say the cost is justified... otherwise I'd find it hard to justify the Annual Fee...

Personally unsure I'll hold on to my Plat card i got for the 75k bonus points... honestly... my Citibank gold business card is doing a great job...

CX Diamond seems to be for first year only. One would have to travel and spend to maintain that level. Wish it was ongoing.

You may want to try negotiating discount on the platinum card fee. I did and got 50% off which softens the blow somewhat.

Yeah I'll definately try and get it reduced, if they say no then I'll have no issues saying good bye to them. I think... =) not so sure now, priority pass, and the travel insurance is a very good benefit...

What gets up my nose about the Centurion is that because of the currency movements since it first came out Australians are being charged an annual fee that is now double what US holders pay yet get lesser benefits.

For $2500 I would think carefully about whether its worth it over Platinum but at $4300 I would refuse on principle.
