I will be travelling to San Francisco next May, and the only airline that flies direct is United. Air NZ flys via Auckland and the other airlines fly to LA.

Richard Branson stated back in May that they were considering flying V Australia direct to San Francisco which is a hub for other airlines Virgin is linked to. However, I have heard no more about this possibility. I would like to fly V Australia, but really would prefer a direct flight to and from Australia

You had my hopes up with that thread title!!

Direct VA flights MEL-SFO would be several different kinds of awesome; much better than LAX to connect through, and there's already a decent lounge to use (the VS CH is really rather lovely) :)

Its one of my 3 wishes to VA that they jump on the direct SFO route. Unfortunately I can't see it within the time you are wanting to go. I would be happy to spend the extra hours going via LAX or even giving ANZ a go via Auckland , instead of using United.

Dick's famous for saying stuff that never happens.... I know he has a financial interest in the airline but I doubt he really contributes two cents to decision making there. His half nekkid, chicks are all but gone off the aircraft. She's just a shadowy memory now. Quite possibly as big a signal as any that his interest is limited to company sponsored publicity jaunts in the antipodes.

Re: V australia flying direct to San Francisco ??

Should have included question marks in the title.
