Will you make the move?

Medhead,
I was meaning that it doesn't matter if it's Star, Sky Team or Oneworld. As long as it's global and suits me, I'm happy.

Side note. for my European destinations, both Star and OW both fly to where l need to get to. However, I don't see the point in getting status on an airline if l'm only going to fly with them once a year and not be able to use their benefits domestically. Hence why l with QF. If DJ joined Star l would switch to DJ and also get a credit card that earns in the velocity program.

I missed the global thing because you only mentioned European destinations. I'm not sure about star but I would say that DJ/etihad offer a greater number of 1 stop destinations in Europe than QF. DJ status can be used domestically unlike Star alliance.

If you looks at the tie ups VS have, I suspect you will see similar things with DJ, I cannot find too many holes, DJ knows they are the missing link for any non OW alliance locally, I suspect they are holding that card close to their chest.

I just had a look at the Velocity website for European destinations.

10 in total (going from the Velocity website options)

3 in the UK (Dublin, Manchester and London)
2 in Germany (Frankfurt + Munchen)
Paris
Istanbul
Geneva
Milan
Moscow

The two destinations that l was looking for were Budapest or Berlin. Not listed.

Did dummy bookings on DJ and QF to check out the prices (same dates 02/11)

DJ
Routes on offer were
SYD - AUH (Abu Dhabi) - LHR - (<-cheapest)
SYD - LAX - LHR (SC run?) (more expensive)
$2028

QF
Routes on offer were
SYD - SIN - LHR
SYD - HKG - LHR
$2228

Big difference on earning miles though. QF, 1 FF point per mile flown. DJ, it's 0.5 on the same priced fare. However, status tiers are measured differently by the two airlines, as we know on this forum.

As l have stated before, it's very interesting times for the flying masses as DJ seem to be really making an effort to change for the better. Next year should be a cracker once they really get their new planes up and running. Game on.

Happy travels all

WHy are people so opposed to live2air?
Not opposed to Live2Air but simply do not want to pay for it so for me it is useless. How hard would it be to provide some radio or music channels like QF?

Doesn't the link up with etihad give a better options to get to europe than oneworld?
As far as I am aware DJ's partners do not cover intra-Europe routes and I think MH is the only one that covers intra-Asia routes.

DJ really does need to be in a global alliance if they want to be competitive and attract top tier FFers from QF.

No probably not but Virgin Atlantic has gotta be pretty similar to the situation with online bookings on QF that always* route via LHR for intra-europe. Intra-europe is a bit pointless for me anyway as I prefer the trains (and can't book the QF train codeshares on line either)

*Well for the limited checks that I've done, but then I recalling having trouble getting MUC-MAD with IB out of QF
