I am not a meteorologist so I will leave that to the experts, but many aircraft are in lengthy holding patterns adjacent to SYD this morning at 1040 and lots of departures must have been delayed. Flights recommenced landing at about 1044. QF416 from MEL to SYD for example took off at 0853, 23 minutes after its scheduled 0830 departure, but will not be at its SYD gate until at least 1050, 55 minutes late.
It may be due to a 'downwind' at the airport although ATC is now discussing 'headwind.'
This will result in many noon and early afternoon delays although as always it depends on the rotations for each aircraft as some may not visit SYD at all today; others will be in and out of SYD three or four times a day. The 1000 timeframe is also quite busy for international flight departures.
