Wine Glasses, Decanters etc

Selosse, Pierre Péters, Agrapart, Tarlant, David Léclapart, Larmandier-Bernier, Egly-Ouriet, Pierre Gimmonet, Gaston Chiquet, Vilmart.... I've done all the bigger houses before and now tend to gravitate towards grower Champagnes though Taittinger Comtes de Champagne is probably my favorite from the bigger guys.

Some lovely bubbles amongst that group.
Do they all decant? I learn something new every day. :)

And how often do you have the pleasure of such visits? Are you in the business?

A few on that list that I don't know, so - assuming they are akin to those I do know from your list and enjoy so much - I will have to seek them out. How do you rank the Gimmoney, Chiquet and Gaston?

Not all of them decant but a fair few of them do...

I guess I'm there every 18 months or so and yes in the biz..... many years in retail & wine auctions in Sydney + doing vintages at various wineries each year, then moved to the Barossa to work at a winery and now I'm a wine writer for a bunch of magazines in AUS & overseas and have a monthly column in a rag here in Australia.

Gimmonet probably the pick of those three.... all Chardonnay from the Côte de Blancs. No single vineyard wines so it is more an expression of the art of blending. I left Vouette et Sorbee off the list also... hey are very good.

Thanks for the tips. Have made notes and will keep an eye out. Travelling in North America at the moment but have a couple of excellent sources of bubbly back home, so can ask them to hunt around a bit.

Your career choices were sound! :):)

No problem :D

I'm off to the U.S. day after tomorrow... if you see a scruffy Kiwi with a glass of wine in his hand go up and say hello ;)

The experience of enjoying a G & T out of one of these glasses is just indescribable - until you actually do it you would be no doubt just scratching your head and asking what is this clown on about! It just a changes a G & T from an enjoyable drink to an ultra enjoyable drink. Vedder you are just around the corner - I am in Parkdale - when I get the glasses I will pm you and you can drop over and try one mate.

considering that you seem to be a gin connoisseur:

Has anyone got any recommendations for wine glasses, or even places to look at, for a reasonable price?
I know Riedel gets mentioned from time to time.

Saw these:

$80 -> $44 is not bad - any reason not to buy something like this?

I have no doubt that the glass affects the taste to an extent, but some are selling for as high as $109 per glass.
In many cases, the glass costs more than the bottle of wine

That looks to be good value. How often do the $50 vouchers come up? When they do, can you post it here?
Very frequently, look out for it in the Dan Murphys forum. I got mine just recently with the NRMA magazine mailout. It's a one-off voucher.

Try "CPANEW" for $50 off $120 spend, and don't forget the CashRewards and gift cards for Maximum discounts.
If CPANEW does not work then dont proceed. Good buying.

Cellarmasters have 2 free Plumm glasses offers for $125. With $50 voucher (just wait for one ;)), gift card and CR reduces to $63.30.

I've purchased a couple of the premium reds last sale and the glasses are nice. We already have glasses and will give the plumms to family but they are individually boxed and high quality.

If you want some decent glasses and don't mind the stemless ones, check your local Dan Murphys for some of last years (or even this years) gift boxes - you can sometimes pick up a bottle of wine with two Spiegelau stemless glasses for as low as $20, up to $35 (depending on the wine you choose). From memory, Spiegelau is owned by Riedel https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produ...iegelau-cabernet-sauvignon-and-wine-glass-set

I'm a recent convert to Zalto glasses and even though they were purchased for 'special occasions', that has now come to mean 'the opening of a bottle' in our house. They are $50-60 each but simply a joy to drink out of and far superior to Riedel IMHO.

Good ain't they!:)

I sit there some nights and struggle with whether to use a Zalto or a Gabriel Glas for 10-15 minutes and just end up grabbing a Schott or a Riedel to save myself the effort of having to choose. Somehow I have ended up using them more for when I'm in a hurry than special occasions.

What a first world predicament when you cannot choose which wine glass to use as they are both so good.

Picked up a Jacobs Creek Double Barrel Shiraz with two stemless SPEIGELAU glasses at DM yesterday, $28.50., the wine is tasty and love the stability and shape of these glasses.

I've discovered these glasses only recently, too, and became an instant fan. Have yet to give them the multiple-times-through-the-dishwasher workout but am impressed so far.

They are are on the Christmas gift list for a few who would appreciate them. Gorgeous items. :)
Love your definition of a "special occasion". Consider it adopted. :)

This looks like a good buy for some riedel glass'es if anybody is looking
Add code ANNIVERSARY20 for another $20 off = $120 for 8 glasses

Thanks for the tip, unfunkable!
Needed some halfway decent glasses for the beach house.
I'm in love with Zalto for home base - but they would not last a month in the communal living situation. This offer should give us something decent at a good price. :)
