I am sure I read recently on here that they had used a close to expired Wish gift card to buy a new Wish gift card with a new 12 month expiry date ?

I have a ton of gift cards due to expire in the next few weeks and no chance I can really spend that much before then ?

Can anyone confirm this ? I tried yesterday at Woolworths and they claim I could not pay for a new gift card with an old one. They refused to even let me try it

I might try at Dick Smith as they are more switched on with gift cards

I would try at another place. You can certainly buy iTune cards as I just did that over the w/e. Otherwise, I suspect you are going to have to buy a mountain of non perishables from your local Woollies:rolleyes:

Odd, because I've used remaining values on multiple gift cards to buy a new one several times. Tried this at DSE, WoW and Big W - and would generally tell the staff I was just combining for convenience.

Definitely try somewhere else, nobody ever blinked an eye at me. Often junior staff are clueless with gift card activations but then managers are paranoid and get suspicious!

Hmm well I have been writing a list of things to buy that are $$ and last months!

Of course alcohol is high on that list along with canned food, detergents and cleaning products

I have searched and searched and can't find the post that one of the regulars or moderators made on here recently about using older cards to buy new ones!!

You mean this post?

Don't forget that if your wish cards are due to expire (particularly if you have a big stash :)... you can just use them to buy new Wish cards... with another year before they expire. Woolies don't bat an eyelid when you do this, although I have always made at least a small purchase as well.... so much better than spending on things you don't really need, just to use them up before expiry.

I guess you can always buy something with the card/s, and then get a refund--> the refund will go into a new giftcard.

It amazes me that we accept that gift cards expire and the retailer gets to pocket the cash! This practice should be illegal.

I'm just glad that $50 notes don't have an expiry date on them.

Slightly OT, but is there a way to get WISH cards for less than face value, or some other "Ponzi scheme" type situation that I've missed out on?

Buying one gift card with another does work

You just have to find a cashier willing to do it for you

Also many unions offer 5% off giftcards. I think entertainment book might as well.

However, I'm not sure how a ponzi scheme might work when them, since you get the full face value. A standard 5% discount probably tells us alot about supermarket profit margins.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Don't know about WISH gift cards, but i have two Fly Buys gift cards amounting to $70 (which expire this month) and a normal Coles/Myer group and a Target gift card worth about $130 combined for a grand total of about $200 (i'm pretty sure).. They have been sitting around, some for two years now, with nothing desperate that i want to buy... I walked into a Target and a Coles store today to ask if i could combine them onto one card or buy a new gift card worth about $200 and they both said company policy is not to allow this...

Anyone know of any way i can do this???

I've bought gift cards with gift cards from Coles before. They can't 'combine' the values together, but there is nothing stopping you buying a giftcard, then paying it for a giftcard at the register.

Our company has entered into an agreement with Kidney Health Australia where one could get 5% off the purchase of gift cards and discounts ranging from 5% to 50% off for other purchases and Kidney Health Australia gets a donation for the purchase.

I have not tried it yet as I have enough gift cards to last until June 2012 but I am not too sure if it is transferable either.

As a follow up to this, a local Dick Smith store was very helpful in letting me churn over new gift cards for another 12 months
