Re: Woolworths rethinking Qantas - or a slow news day

Woolies have long lost the plot and if they remove FF my gradually diminishing shopping basket because of their damned store relays is going become ZERO. if Icant find a product because they have moved it, I dont go looking for it. Ive aswered severla surveys and in the comments section have told them what I think..reaction? ZIP. This proposed change will be the last straw with WW if it goes ahead .

It's like flying at 34,000 feet and the pilot's voice comes over the intercom..."Ladies and gentlemen, I'd just like to say that there is absolutely no cause for alarm."...click.

Hahah this made me laugh out loud.

interesting to see a lot of AFFers following this thread

Re: Woolworths rethinking Qantas - or a slow news day

Woolies replacing the everyday rewards card with Woolworths rewards cards next week, instead of earning points you'll earn Woolworths dollars which can be redeemed in your next transaction (takes it off your transaction).

Now that I have seen the above I did notice a week ago at the self serve kiosk at woolies when I scanned my EDR it used to say 'Everyday Rewards card accepted' but it now says 'Woolworths rewards card accepted' at the time I thought oh that's strange but thought nothing of it, but now it all makes sense!

Amazing! A holding email about nothing much... but QF can't put out an email regarding changes to partner earn rates.

I'm thinking QF wants to hang on to the '10 million member' statistic, and the break in this partnership could see that reduced. Can understand QF would also want to hang on to the revenue.

Demonstrating your low value will prompt them to ask them to increase it. They want infrequent, large value shops so you will pick up high margin add ons.

</speculation>

Actually that's incorrect the grocers prefer consistent pantry top ups.
The $30 threshold is really out of whack with a big change in consumer shopping behaviour that favours several top ups v the traditional one a week.

Stuff that - just think of all the QFF loyalty team managements KPI's up in smoke if this does eventuate!

There's a huge amount of speculation about this, similar to the Woolworths/Masters/Lowes situation. But no real facts available at this time.

Except this: "Woolworths revealed its plans to review its rewards program at an investor strategy day earlier this year."

Read more: Woolworths looks to cut ties with Qantas

I very much recall hearing this direct from Woolworths at the time of the WOW investor strategy day.

Strangely enough, my PA received this email in her inbox, I however have received zilch.

Alphabetically selected? Strike - her last name starts with W, mine rather higher.
FF Status? Strike 2 - we're now both Bronze with QF (and I last flew QF in April.)
QF/EDR Member length? Strike 3 - I've been an EDR member since it first started, she about 6 months (if that!!)

Guess I know where I am in the pecking/shopping/importance order as far as QF is concerned ; wonder why they're looking to (possibly) cut ties, as it seems odd that they'd do so if a competitor is looking to tie up with Coles?

Regardless, it won't hurt me so much, but my PA (and immediate family) definitely. Interesting that it has happened just after the latest round of S&F changes too . . . . .

I wonder if Woolies with rethink splitting from QFF now that Flybys is linked to Etihad.

Coles showed their trump card yesterday and Woolies will have a very inferior Loyalty Program in Comparison to Coles without Qantas and Woolworths remaining together IMHO.

Very true, another observation I've noticed is that on all the POS screens show no reference to the actual Qantas Points earned anymore.

Interesting situation. If QF aren't happy, perhaps we can look forward to larger credit card bonuses and perhaps points at a larger variety of places (coffee club or Gloria jeans 50 points per cup?) as a reaction. Hopefully a reaction that allows the same net benefits as the odd 500 points for $75 at WOW.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Why do you think people are going to rush to Coles because of the Etihad partnership?

Yep I can just see the stampede now....

Sometimes you must ignore the Captain but rather watch if the FA sits in their jump seat when turbulence hits...

I don't think the OP is suggesting that people will be rushing to Coles now.
What I see as the crux of the issue is that prior to the EY announcement Coles had an inferior loyalty scheme which wouldn't attract any extra business. Woolies had a loyalty scheme which was clearly a driver for a subset of shoppers. With Coles now upgrading their loyalty scheme to points earning on EY they have positioned themselves into a more level playing field with the points chasers who currently shop at Woolies. If Woolies remove that points incentive, those shoppers will change their behavior and may well stick to what they know ie. collecting FF points and switch their weekly shop to Coles

I just got the email now (SG, PER).

"Something is about to get simpler and fairer (tm), but we're not telling you yet"
