Wordle!

Wordle 225 3/6*

⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜
⬜🟩⬜⬜⬜
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Got a lucky guess at the third attempt and managed to save my reputation !

Does anybody else play this in Hard Mode ?
I didn't realise you could play it in hard mode. Just to be sure I understand it correctly then if have a yellow L in row one I have to use it in row 2 - for me I always use that letter because then it gives me more certainty where it does or doesn't go.

How do others do it - if you got an L as a correct letter in the first row but not in the right spot - would you use L in the second row?

5/6 today
I always play in hard mode, I didn’t realize there was any other way 🤣

Yes! Not using a yellow letter from your first guess is guaranteeing you can’t do better than three guesses to finish.

Unless you’re happy with 3/6 (or more) and then you could use a strategy of a vowel heavy guess word followed by a consonant heavy guess word (or v.v) to narrow your options.

Really depends what you get with first guess.

But a non-hard coverage strategy would be using words like.
LASER then MOUNT, or
LITER (sic) then MOUSE

Which covers 4/5 vowels and some common consonants.

There are lots of strategies for the start word and subsequent. I have a favourite (not telling) and there’s several mathematical theses on the best.

The best first word is the one that is the answer. That's contained in the source code and easy enough to check (if you're that way inclined) ;)

My friend has written code to solve it 🤦‍♀️ Just because he can.

I just like to use my brain 😛

Yes we could all do that but that’s not the point is it! (Write a code solution that is, not to not use one’s brain!) That‘s the whole point of a wordle a day. :)

You might be able to write the code but I couldn't ;) - but I'm loving Wordle

More interesting in the source code is there are only about 1000 possible answers (fairly common words) but another 2000 that are accepted as entries.

Less than 4 hours sleep after the thrilling tennis, my best performance to date 😀
