World's best airline named as Qantas [ ... slips down the SkyTrax list]

I'm surprised that Lufthansa, Air NZ and Swiss are also very far down that list.

Re: Worlds' Best Airlines - Who Agrees?

The surveys are rubbish, who honestly believes;
...
- Air Asia is better than British Airways.

I do.

Sure they don't operate in the same market segments. They have different levels of service. But I think Air Asia offer better value for money than BA. From my experience Air Asia FAs provide a better level of service than BA FAs in economy. Overall I think Air Asia is a better run airline than BA.

indeed since most people I know rank Swiss premium classes among the best in the world, especially for food. My own personal experiences with NZ business class have been superb, I think they are far superior to QF in business class.

Qatar bought the Football World Cup, so it doesn't surprise me they bought top place on the rankings.

I'm surprised re Malaysia Airlines for best cabin crew...most of my dealings with them have been very ordinary

I've had the opposite experience. The cabin crew have often been the highlight of my long-haul flights with them.

I don't have any issues with D7, but they did seem to hide (in premium) after they had served their meal.

As for the comments re MH, it is funny how one bad experience can spoil all the built up good work (especially considering it was the other half they did annoy!)

As for anything, read into it what you want.

I second you regarding Air New Zealand...are'nt they the ATW Airline of the year in 2012

Don't get me wrong, I love the lounges, with the SYD F-Lounge being simply excellent. But if that is where QF (and lets be fair, most airlines) are putting their effort there is something wrong. A lounge is simply the most comfortable place to wait in an airport terminal. My couch at home is just as comfortable, and when I put my chefs hat on, I can produce food just as nice as the chefs in the lounge. What I can't do at home is travel from SYD-LAX (excluding playing flight simulators), and that is where the comforts are really needed.

(For the purpose of this post, we'll ignore the fact that F-Lounge runs exist)

Another way of looking at it:idea:

Lets say most airlines with F cabins are fitted with 14 seats/suites.....CX have only 9. That means that the number of passengers that get the pleasure of experiencing F class per flight is no more than 14, probably less as the cabins aren't always full!

The number of people per flight that get to experience an Flounge is much, much higher - due to status, guesting & airline freebies.

If the objective is to reach as many customer as possible & woo them with aspirational urges......a good F lounge is not a bad way of going about it!

I'm sure it works a treat ensuring some status members maintain their status or aspire to climb the status totem pole.

Not a bad way of seducing more than 14 flyers per flight.

Meh ... skytrax ...

and again ... meh ...

I mean really Turkish and Asiana, even Thai as much as I love Thai, these guys are no qantas. Have I flown Turkish and Asiana? No I haven't, do I have to ? No I don't!

Come on get real skytrax. This is the same as awarding Obama the Nobel peace prize. It just devalues your product.

As someone who has flown all those airlines (except ANA) in the last 2 years, I think that list is quite accurate.

I don't think anybody doubts that SE Asia and the Arabian Gulf have the best aviation products.
Personally, I'm thrilled that Garuda have really turned themselves around and what a really great effort from Malaysian Airlines; well deserved too.

Note to self: Fly ANA and Asiana more often.

Australian based frequent flyers are really spoilt with great airline choices.

Qatar has F, but very, very limited sectors, like LHR-DOH.

Having said that, their J product is outstanding (or so l have heard from a very travelled QF CL) who uses them a lot.

I'd never paid much attention to these...but not surprised the ASA is investigating them...check out the "methodology" page which attempts to explain the basis of the results. It's woeful. No mention of the survey numbers, how they pick the survey participants, how they normalise the results so that they can compare large vs small carriers etc. It's a statistician's nightmare.

No one should be surprised about anything this heap of xyz website does or publishes! I'm surprised that anyone is surprised :)

I don't get that how you are so quick to prejudge two airlines you have no experience of. I can't comment about Turkish airlines. But I have flown with Asiana four times in recent years and I would rank them up with Singapore or Cathay in terms of quality of service and experience. They may not have a high profile in Australia, but they are a great airline.

These awards did cover a period of time when Qantas decided to ground most of their fleet for 48 hours to resolve an industrial dispute. It is not surprising that they had a big dropping in the ratings.
