There have been a few mentiin of travel insurances to cover the connection of two seperate bookings, I did research for such a product myself and couldn't find any. Could see some website explaining that travel insurance typically exclude those.

Anyone has some examples of travel insurance covering missed connection on seperate ticket?

1. We have booked multiple legs 4x business class reward tickets dec / Jan this year and also quite nervous but just going to have a full balance credit card and the best insurance we can find. Just hopjng for the best after that.

2. We are staying in Singapore overnight and having a Changi airport day with the kids to waste time - Yotel family room is quite reasonable
Yotel is good especially for kids. Jewel is good too and you and the kids won't feel bored.

Oops, didn't read the later posts. hard to find another decent hotel near the airport at reasonable cost.

I was in Singapore in May and June. Hotel prices back then was very high. Hilton Gardens Inn set me back A$280 per night.

reward flights count if you paid the taxes / carrier surcharge on your AMEX?
I believe Rewards flights count only if paid with Amex membership points. Taxes and carrier charges only don’t constitute the full amount of the cost of the outbound sector in $ or equivalent in membership rewards.

My partner really doesn't want to collect bags, cusoms and travel into Singapore for a night (big bags for a long trip, on a bit of a budget and small child basically)
Just read that part and thought, will you be able to check the bags through with two separate bookings? How will you get the boarding passes when you land in SIN?

QF travel pass and Amex
Whatever the currency used, if it is all paid via AMex - either with $$, membership or an amex issued travel credit then IMO you are covered.

A travel pass is a bit tricky even though it was paid for with $$$ via Amex. I wonder how Amex views that transaction

If can't check luggage through in SIN use airside transfer desk for boarding pass and transfer of luggage.

Changi is very easy to get in and out, immi wise, out of the airport that is.
They have gotten rid of a lot of their travel restrictions, and even if you have to go out into the open area, 9 hours is enough to go out and come back into the airport secure zone.
ICA is also a shortish process, depending on your passport issuing country/nationality, usually no visa, so its easy.
Airport security scanning there of hand luggage takes place at the gate, so if you do get a BP at a transfer desk, you will go through security at the next gate for your flight, not like in Aust int airport, where they security scan everyone at one point, at Changi, they scan each plane's set of pax just before the pax enters the dep gate.
If you have to go out into the open zone, you can go to the KLM desk at SIN, or do OLCI, but do go to the desk to get papery BP, as you need this to get past the first scanning point, where an officer will check all boarding passes, to make sure only pax get past that first screening point.
I don't think QF check in at your first port of int departure will give/issue you the KLM BP, so you can try OLCI on the KLM website, if OLCI can be done 48 hours prior to flight, (if allowed before KLM flight).
If you can't do OLCI, try transfer desk at Changi in the secure zone.
If all else fails, claim bags, to out, get paper BP and come back in.
Edit: if all goes well, KLM website says you can do OLCI 30 hours before flight.

Yotel is very entertaining for kids. Order a bottle of water and it gets delivered by their room service robots. The rooms are very small, but they are designed that way and everything works, strangely enough.

As some of the others have said, add it to the experience of travel - although if people are getting stressed that can be a bit hard to say at the time. I don't think you will have any problems.

I decided to send an email to Chubb seeking confirmation on whether a combination of QF travel pass and Amex qualified for the complementary travel insurance. I'll post the reply when and if I get one.

Can I transit through Singapore Changi Airport?

Under the government’s transit travel rules, passengers who arrive in Changi and plan to depart on a different airline, must have both flights booked in the same booking itinerary. Passengers must also have their checked-in luggage tagged-through from the origin airport to their final destination.

Just having a read, and saw the above.
Hope that by the time you get through, that this rule would have changed.

Hi @AustraliaPoochie

Thanks for this information. That is a bit worrying. As we will be flying with Qantas one day and then with KLM (booked via Qantas website) the next day I wonder if I can ask to have the flights linked, despite there being a night in between both flights. Or would we be not 'transitioning through' as such due to the night in between?

@jackaroo Honestly, the least stress is to go the day prior. Don't stay at the airport - Singapore is very easy, you'll have your bags and be through customs before you know it. Stay someone reasonable in the city, go for a wander, sightsee or even visit the zoo. You'll effectively have 36hrs in Singapore so you could cram quite a bit in if you really wanted. Alternatively, just laze by the hotel pool which all kids love doing. You'll be much fresher for the next leg to Europe too.

+1 for this.
Even if you don’t want to see the sights just relaxing by a pool at a cheap hotel will freshen you up amazingly. Very easy airport to get in and out of

I can't see how they enforce or monitor the "through transit" thing. @Cruiser Elite - what do you think (esp. for someone who hasn't been through before)?

@jackaroo this seems more of an encouragement to overnight in SIN and 'break' the journey, therefore satisfying Changi :) As others have said, you'll be able to find something reasonable in S'pore and their transit system is a dream.
