Would you pay $195 for 23,000 QFF points?

At the moment I am spending $20 to get 1,740 QFF points. It's a marginal call as an international economy redemption to/from BKK/HKG works out to ~AUD600 one-way which is not that great and you don't earn SCs or QFF points. A business class redemption to/from BKK/HKG works out to ~AUD950 one-way which is a little bit better.

What it does highlight is the obscene fuel surcharges added on to award tickets. Need to find a sweet spot there.

Anyway I think 23,000 QFF points for $195 is a much better deal.

If you're spending $1k per sector we need to talk....

$3370 for SYD Europe J rtn
Much more than I'm currently paying but still only half the cost of a revenue fare

Yes I would do that. I normally earn around 5K per month so I would see it as a chance to get 4 months closer to my goal.

If you have a use for the points, it's not a bad deal.

I would do it.

I think its a good deal based on what i just booked.

CBR-BNE one way Business for 16000 points and $53 vs the $599 quoted for the same flight.

Id say $195 for 23000 is pretty reasonable, but as mentioned before it would totally depend on the planned use of the points.

I agree your circumstances would dictate your decision.

But food for thought. You can currently get an ANZ CC for no cost in the first year that comes with 75,000 FREE points, 2 FREE lounge passes and more. Hmmmm. I know what I'd rather do.

Not everybody who applies for every CC with sign on bonus is successful - grab the points wherever / whenever you can - coughulative annual total and average cost per pt are the only 2 things you need keep in mind.

Or of course you could have the best of both worlds, double dip and you're only 2k shy of the magic 100k :-)

Thanks everyone for your input and ideas. I decided to take up the offer - it was simply AMEX's offer to keep my card instead of refunding the annual fee as they did every year prior to last year. I was offered points last year, however they were I think 10K higher with their offer. I don't think my spend has changed that much so it was interesting to note their decrease in points in their offer.
I'm now wondering if I should cancel the card anyway to allow the prospect of applying for other AMEX offers in 12 months time. I doubt however, that they would still refund the annual fee. But then I doubt I'd put 80K though the card in a year to earn anywhere near their current new sign up bonus points offer.

Tough decision!
