WoW Melbourne - was that an Earth quake?

Born in Wonthaggi, but felt nothing in Patterson Lakes - I guess that what happens when you live on a Swamp ... the sandy 'stratas' mute the vibrations.

What time did it hit? 8.55pm?

I was either walking on Queen St in the CBD or popping into my office (also on Queen St) - didn't feel a thing and didnt even know about it until an hour or so later.

Disappointed - Ive never experienced an earthquake before!

It didn't feel that much stronger than the one a couple of years back.

It was very noticable from 16th floor of Southbank Apartment building. Lasted about 15-20 sec.

The USGS has a survey where you can add your location and details of what you felt if anyone is interested.

I've been on high floors during a couple of magnitude 4-5 earthquakes (One in Tokyo and one in Newcastle - not the big one - in the mid 90s) and it's like being on a pogo stick. Not a pleasant experience.

Yeah, not great. First 10 seconds was like "what the" then another 5 seconds moving towards doorways, deciding whether to grab our son (asleep) out of bed and by the time we'd thought about it all and moved the shaking stopped.

It feels a bit like being on a suspension bridge when they jiggle!

We had images of this in our head:

but it was more like this:

I just emailed our insurance rep to see if we can get an assessor to the office to review the damage caused by last night's earthquake. Hopefully, we will be up and running soon....

underrated post...

NEWS: "EARTHQUAKE ROCKS MOE"
=======================

A major earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit in the epicentre in Moe

... Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly muttering, "coughkin ell" and "Whadda carnt". The earthquake decimated the area causing approximately $30 worth of damage.

Doesn't the joke normally go "The earthquake decimated the area causing approximately $30 worth of improvements"?

Got a good shake in East Gippsland. I was eating a big bowl of soup and suffered some spillage onto my favourite jeans. :(

It was interesting to hear that thousands of people rang 000 to report that there was an earthquake. How stupid are they? Unless there was a need to have emergency services attend why call?

Do they not realise that it would be felt by everyone in the area?

Yes, far better to report it here, Facebook, Twitter etc :)
