WP booking QF award tix

Thanks, dajop. Yes, if necessary, I'll take the flight via Melbourne. It's really not too much longer, I don't spose. Good to also know I'm not the only one not having any luck with extra Y award seats.

Have seen some recentish posts that indicate that this is still possible...

Yeah, and thank goodness! I tried to get 2 x economy award seats LAX-SYD in October 2009...nothing available 10 days either side (even via AKL). Put in a request and 12 hours later, had 2 x award seats confirmed on QF10late on the day I wanted. :)

(We were already on QF10late JFK-LAX).

Cheers,
- Febs.

I contacted the premium desk earlier today to see if they could request a Y seat for me on QF19 SYD-MNL 10 January. Nope, not possible. Apparently it's too full in Y. Expertflyer is showing:

J9 C9 D9 I4 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S1 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0

The agent said she could request a J seat be opened up but no guarantees.

I've just learnt some new information from Qantas on seeking award seek availability for WP. Apparently, for a request to be made (for a seat to be made available) there must be seats available in Q class. Now, yesterday the flight I'm looking at was showing Q0 (as above). Today, Expertflyer is showing Q5. When I phoned Qantas today the agent put through a request for a seat to be made available but after about 90 seconds it came back as declined. The agent pointed out that seats in Q class does not mean an award seat will be made available, simply only that a request can be made.

I'd be interested in others' experiences down the track with opening up award seats in relation to Q class availability.
