WP treatment in Y

Is it bad etiquette for a WP pax in Y to ask for business class items when greeted by the CSM and he/she does not have things like noise cancelling headphones in their hands?
I don't suppose there is an established etiquette for these situations but I wouldn't ask for anything that might not be available and thus cause embarrassment for either party. Happy to accept such if offered though.
My usual response is to "keep my glass topped up" which seems to easy to oblige and keeps everyone happy (especially me).

QF5 a couple of weeks ago, besides the obvious Plat Shadow (leaving a seat free between myself and my travelling companion) and FLounge goodness
- CSM came over, introduced himself, asked to let him know if I need anything
- Generally well looked after w.r.t piling me with drinks
- Caught up in the galley mid-flight, and after a longish conversation about the Emirates Alliance and what not (including a whacky-tabacky idea to paint an A380 with EK on one side and QF on the other a la the BA-SQ concorde - admittedly, I may have been fairly inebriated by then) the CSM asked if I'd care for a wine. I cheekly responded with "sure, a glass of red from up front would be nice". Next thing I know, he brings back a bottle pours it into the two big glasses (they typically use for water service) with "these are better, they hold more - top ups in the galley if you need them"

Return flight from SIN, the agent checking me in in the premium lounge was kind to block me an entire middle block of 4, however, nothing noticably 'different' onboard.

Yes. By all means accept any extras that they may offer, but never ask for something that is not provided as part of the class of service you've bought.

While I am encouraged every time I hear of a WP receiving a warm welcome from the CSM when traveling in Y (or indeed receiving it myself) , I find that it is inconsistent at best. In my estimation, I only get a welcome on about 33% of my QFi flights (for reference, that is 22 QFi flights in Y this year alone = 230hrs bis).

You might be interested if I compare this with other OW/partner airlines, my results are : BA 0%, EK 0%, CX 80%. I should add that the sample size for JL, S7, RJ and IB are statistically too small to be meaningful, but my personal results for these carriers are : JL 0%, S7 0%, RJ 0%, IB 0%.

I do not think it is bad etiquette regardless of what some people here think.

If the CSM asks you "Is there anything I can get for you?" then I will ask for business class headset and possibly a drink as well but most times the CSM brings the business class headsets with them anyway.

I agree with John. If I'm flying during the day and the CSM asks me if they can get me anything, I usually ask for a real coffee after the meal service. If later in the day I usually don't want anything but internationally I've been known to ask for a glass of bubbly from up the front. They ask, so it's not like you're just demanding unprompted, and they can always say no (although they never have!)

Has been posted here before, but when the CSM introduces themselves to me, if they haven't already bought the headphones/amenity kit and they ask if there's anything they can do I ask with a cheeky smile "I don't suppose there's any chance of a glass of bubbles from up front is there?". I've never once been declined, and it usually is met with strange looks from people around me as glass after glass just keeps coming without me prompting (I've had to decline it before after particularly lengthy visits prior to boarding in the F lounge :o).

When QF get Customer Service right, they *really* get it right!

Mel-Per yesterday, CSM came and saw me after takeoff, introduced herself, shook my hand, thanked me for flying Qantas, brought J class headsets and asked if there was anything else she could do - asked for. Asked for a pillow and it was brought.

Great service.

Being based in Adelaide almost all my domestic flights are on 737's. My employer insists on cheapest ticket, so I fly Y, but being WP I can choose seats. If I flew flexible fare I would be comfortably P1, and probably see more of my family but that's not a priority for our shareholders.

My experience over hundreds of red-e-deal flights in the past 2 years is if I fly in the exit row (13/14) I will almost never get a CSM visit and will occasionally be addressed by name. If I sit in row 4 (first Y behind J, curtain in your lap) I will often get a CSM visit and will be addressed by name by the FA's who are usually more friendly at this end of the plane.

Same for shadows - I almost always have a shadow in 4, slightly less than half the time in exit row. As a broad-shouldered person I would far prefer a shadow over being addressed by name, but both are nice (and being addressed by name is a polite way of saying "thanks", as I always have the choice of airline even if not travel class).

Most of the time I fly rows 4, 13 or 14 as the extra legroom stops me getting painful cramps in my leg that I otherwise get from the restricted legroom elsewhere in Y.

So the moral of the story is sit up the pointy end.

Agree with all of the above.

2 flights into WP. Per-BNE and BNE-Syd no greetings.

Seem to get offered extra wine from female hosties when it's not offered to anyone around me though. Not sure if its because they know I'm WP or whether its cos I dress well have a cheeky smile and mid thirties. I alway fly in a suit or if I am casual a suit jacket and jeans.

I noticed that 2 travel partners with me were automatically slotted into the exit row with me. NB and PS. Not sure if that is a WP perk but it was appreciated.

How you get extra wine is to tell the hostie that you missed out on your choice of meal on your last flight and could you please be asked for your selection in advance.

Well it works on Emirates!

I fly CX on international due to QFI not existing anymore ex Perth.

On my last flight, I drank 9 glasses of red in Y. They really look after OW elites.

My last trip, four Y flights CBR-BNE-ROK-BNE-CBR. Two of the flights we got WP shadows. Three flights were good seats at the front of the cabin. Twice I was greeted by name. No special wine or anything, but then again I usually don't ask for wine in Y.

Flew QF 577 Syd-->> Per on Thursday.

Sat in front row exit of Y.

Asked for some J champas and got some on the second bottle after the J service. The FA was a funny little Asian guy named Peter. He looked like Chow off the Hangover and was just as funny. I then got a visit from a FA from the J cabin who was greeting all the WP's. asked if I wanted a newspaper. Etc etc. we still continued to get excellent service from Chow... I mean Peter. He kept us laughing the whole flight. I then got a visit from the CSM who greeted myself by name and my PS boss and congratulated me on getting WP and offered me anything I wanted from the J cabin. Had to tell him that Peter was providing excellent service and that he was a real hoot.

Was such a great flight and it was my 3rd flight as WP. It seems the service levels on thes

These Syd per and Mel Per flight are superior.

Now if they only put MASA flights back on the web, we'd all be happy.

Maybe I should fly economy - QF 127 sitting in Y+ on 17 May, no platinum greeting ,never addressed by name, no service. In fact after the meal service a bottle of water was handed out and then the CSOs vapourised. As it was a daytime flight I was awake and attentive the whole trip and never saw the staff in the Y+ cabin until the refreshment was offered prior to landing.I was on the new configuration of the A380 - were they too busy being fabulous to the pax in the mini Y cabin behind us??
I did an identical flight late last year and received far better treatment.I know Y+ is not business but small gestures do count.

Possibly...my flight on Qf127 this last Thursday, mini cabin Y - most amazing service I have experienced in flight on any airline. I am not sure if it was because it was my first international flight since joining qc, or the flight attendant took a shine to me, but absolutely amazing service for Y. Oh, and I'm just a lowly bronze too. But it is experiences like this that will make me stick with qantas. I will be sending a message of praise to qantas separately - will be interesting to compare the return flight!

QF24 last Saturday in Y. Got the CSM greeting, inwards express card etc and told to ask if we needed anything. During the night I noticed that there were no Y "comfort" packs (eye shades, ear plugs etc). I went up to the J galley between the Y & J cabins and asked the crew in there if it was possible to have a J amenities pack. They were more than happy to oblige and asked if I also wanted something from the J wine selection. I don't drink and have my own noise cancelling headset so I was good. All appreciated when you are in Y due to company policy.

I am often given wine from J when in Y, on QF51 the other day it was Bests (my new favourite), even though I was enjoying the St Hallet and usually offered headphones if they don't notice my Bose.
