You might as well transfer the points to Krisflyer atleast as it is one of viable and safe options. Yes there might be other factors like the frequency of your travel and the sectors you travel most.

Have I missed something is the SQ transfer back?

My bad , I guess I did not realise that points transfer is temporarily ( rather permanently suspended )

That ship sailed a long time ago.

Yes , you are right. I forgot that points transfers are suspended between velocity and Krisflyer.

I very much suspect this escape hatch has been welded shut forever.
Thankfully I evacuated all my points in time, but have friends that were too slow, hence you got my hopes up :)

Points plus pay does earn you SC unless it is a reward seat. I am not sure if there was a change in recent times but I have had SCs posted when I booked my international long haul flights using Points plus pay option.
I once made a booking, with that box under the from city and to city, and after the booking, and trip, it showed zero SC earnt.
Points plus pay, at that last page, with the credit card payment, and logos of the different card providers, yes, that part does earn VFF SC, or used to, ...
Who knows what will happen now, as Bain will probably tighten the screws even more to get as much $ from us as possible.

You can tick the box, use Points plus Pay, on the first page of the VA booking page.
This means you are using majority of your points to pay for the fare, but you do not earn any SC from this.
You might still earn 5 VFF points per Aud$1 spent, but no SC.
QF Points plus Pay will earn QF SC no matter what, but not on the VFF side.
Lesson learn from one of my past VA bookings.

Milefast did write "...burn my points...", but I don't think this is what he had in mind; using Point plus Pay is one of the poorest forms of using your points (not that much better than not having the points at all).

Why would QF offer a status match? Most who value what status brings would still switch to QF without it.
My thoughts exactly. Why offer a status match when customers are going to switch from Bain Budget Airlines anyway.

I have an email (text-based written by a real human) from Velocity advising my status extended through to July 2022. However I'm doubtful it will be honoured, somehow. Still, I'll be chasing them about it if/when I drop to SG next year. You might as well ask, what's the point of being Plat anyway if there are limited benefits to access.

Just saw on another thread that lounges have reopened...

lounges have reopened...

Hold on there, you are making me want to go get on a plane again. Meanwhile on the status extension front, my ex-wife (yes ex) sent me an email she received close to anniversary (no, status date not ex-marriage date ) that she had been comped another year of SG. And that SG she had been holding had been gifted to her ...by me, actually. Geeze, I forgot to put that one down in the financial settlement. Yeah you can laugh if you want ...she is still coming after me for a pile of Krisflyer points, apparently I have to give her sufficient for a J return to Europe 🤬

They'll all be flying Qantas or REX by 2021 ... especially if QF does a status match.

They announced today ''enhanced snack packs" for Biz travellers - it is like they have half trained Chimps in there making these decisions.

They get ONE shot at this or else BAIN loses Billions when they pull the plug.

No lounges, no WiFi, no wine on some flights, and if you ask nicely, another Muesli Bar to entice the bizoids .. they are dreaming.

My partner just did a (very quick) trip Perth-Darwin-Perth in Biz. On points (we are using them all too, after the rest were spent on the wine cellar.) All you get is the big seat and free booze. Electric check in for all.The snack pack was woeful.
Also Virgin now leaves from the regional (mining) terminal T2 (not the flash T1 domestic and international) and certainly no business lounge in T2.

PS. he was due to come back a week later. As soon as covid was announced he got on bookings Monday morning and was able to get a Biz points seat out in the Monday afternoon. Don't want to be stranded outside WA!!!!
Arrival in WA was v. different yesterday. Cops everywhere. Lucky he was in Biz. Second off the plane and through the system, but it was different for economy, big backlog.

You get free booze and a snack pack now in Virgin business class? Wow, things have really improved since my last flight with them! 😲

(I am not being sarcastic.)

The alcohol tops it off! Can be dangerous without a substantial meal however yes there is a new VA box with a packaged cake, cheese, crackers, soy crisps & biscuits so quite ok for short to medium flights. It’s a sad story back in Y, you get a snack bar only!
