Re: Upgrades from Saver

Nice pickup. This must have changed in the last 24 hours.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

In theory good, but it's very expensive! Trans con is 30,000 points one-way! Not much less than buying the flight outright with points!

Will be interesting to see whether you can upgrade Amex Plat Edge free flights - could be worth it!

Re: Upgrades from Saver

Can you gift points, and do you get bonus status too? Currently pooling everything to Mrs Here2go so I can get gold from her Platinum but monthly DRW-SYD on saver fares at own expense is not giving me status fast enough.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

Just shows that they are still having trouble filling their business class cabin!

Wonder what happened to their plans to change/fix the J cabin on the 737's to actually be a worthwhile product

Re: Upgrades from Saver

Would be nice if the Platinum upgrades could be used on something but flexi's...

Hardly worth paying the high price of flexis IMO when I could just buy outright with points for J.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

So you can buy a business class fare for 31,000 points outright for per-mel or use 30,000 to upgrade from a saver hardly worth it

The aim is to get last minute upgrades from people who wish to travel in a better seat with some half decent food and wine.

On QF I have selected "upgrade" at the last minute when I am tired/grumpy or just want to be a wanchor. Well aware that I could have used the points earlier and booked something that would have earnt me SC and more points.

How do you buy PER-MEL for 31K points? Thought it was approaching 40K?

With all the upgrade options VA are introducing, will it be possible to upgrade at the last minute?

It's be nice to be able to use 2 x WP upgrades to get one from Saver.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

What a waste of time. Upgrade flights now lose all their flexibility, they don't get any extra status credits and cost heaps in points. The upgrade is solely for the seat! Big cost for a seat.

Would consider an upgrade if I was adding the upgraded fares flexibility, otherwise meh !

Re: Upgrades from Saver

Sorry my bad just did a search 33,800 plus $27.93 or 37700 outright
still would rather pay the 33,800 plus $27.93 than pay for a saver and use 30k in points

Re: Upgrades from Saver

I am hoping that the saver upgrade points rates underwent the same level of proofing as the updated ammendments webpage and that they will be corrected to a more sane level

Otherwise their main purpose appears to be to attempt to make the flexi upgrades look good value in comparison (provided you ignore the base MEL-PER flexi fare having risen over time from $299 to $499)

All I'll add is that it's nice to see some differentiation for WPs.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

I thought you could do this in the lounge currently ? But that may have been a trial ?

I meant that if they keep providing options to upgrade, will there be any seats left to upgrade to at the last minute?

I guess there will be until make the upgrade costs more reasonable.

I thought it would have gone up by now, but I agree. Much better value than spending $228 on a Saver + 30,000 points.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

Much better value saving points for international.

Re: Upgrades from Saver

It's a step in the right direction.... Weren't we all wanting something like this before anyway?

Honestly, the majority of flyers don't even have the 10k points to experience J doing a short BNE-SYD - I wouldn't fret yet, let's wait & see...

Do want to get home & crunch some numbers.
