You know you are a former frequent flyer when...

When you cling to your re-booked LH flight from LHR to BER, even though you will never be able to take the flight - just to have one live international flight!

P.S. We rebooked a no-refund flight last year as far out as we could in vain hope ..
We need to do this with an HA credit....

You have no flights at all in manage my booking - for the third month in a row - and no intention of making one given that you are locked down with no end in sight.

Glad you’re getting something good out of a pretty coughpy situation @Stevo.1702

You have to though because the alternative is pretty miserable. I can do nothing to change the situation, other than doing my bit and getting vaccinated....four times (don't ask or just read my latest trip report), so having a laugh is all that is left. Going from averaging 250k miles a year to next to nothing and being, all but, prevented from getting home by the Australian Government, I have to look on the bright side and try to beat the system or at least play along and work things to my advantage.

To be fair not flying as much has served as a reminder of what is important - yes flying around the world ten times a year.......and at someone else's expense. :p (I see that look on your faces, you were expecting me to say family and home time.....well not for me.:p )

There are always those who are worse off, Western Australians and New Zealanders spring to mind, they will be in lockdown for many years to come. (Apologies if you are in either of those places Seat0B)

Using humour in difficult times to lift spirits has a long history, as TonyH's handle suggests. The saddest part in many ways is that humour has suddenly become less acceptable, with many commentators noting how the bawdy, sexist, racist etc jokes of the past are no longer acceptable. I am sure saying, as Sgt Jones always did, that they don't like cold steel up them would be seen as colonial stereotyping today. So in my view you need to take your laughs where you can, and this forum does have a rich vein to pick from, some of it even meant to be funny. :D :D :D .

Nah I'm in the ACT, so all good, relatively speaking.

However, my son lives overseas and has not been able to get home to see family for this whole thing. He should have been here right now, but his trip was cancelled due to cap reductions. Haven't seen him for nearly 2 years, so I am pretty keen for Australia to move beyond Fortress Australia to something a little more realistic.

And I agree with you about having a laugh - as I sit here in quarantine as a result of driving my 87 year old mum to a medical appointment last Friday, where she became a casual contact. Luckily, expect to be out of it tomorrow or the next day as long as she tests negative. At least she's fully vaxxed. And I have 1 shot down.

When you've booked... waited hopefully and then had cancelled more flights & trips than you've had weeks NOT in Lockdown over the last 18 months. :(

I am now officially observing the textbook definition of insanity.
Really need to unsubscribe from the airline and hotel emails that seem to be unaware there is a global pandemic :D

I now use my FF points for random redemptions as opposed to upgrades and don't care about the lack of value because we don't know how much longer they will be worth anything.

I have forgotten the names of all the lounge staff and realise that I will probably never see any of them again.

When you use your flybuys points for $ off at the register
When you redeem Qantas points for wine
When you passport expired a year ago and you check how long it can be expired before you have to do a painful full application rather than just a simple renewal application at the post office

Yeah, those emails like "there's never been a better time to visit London" that I've continued receiving from British Airways over the past year seem a bit tone-deaf!!

When you dont know the difference between a VA 'future flight' credit from the receivership days, a 'flight credit' from one of the more recently cancelled covid trips and even how to find them online.. And when you have never ever been owed so much by so many airlines..

When you get kicks out of watching plane videos of others, or by taking out digital media to watch of your past trips, on planes or in Singapore, Auckland, Delhi, Suva/Nadi...
