You know you are a frequent flyer when ...

I don't consider myself a frequent flyer and I have more than 200 QF flights in 5 years, lots of AFFers seem to fly 100-200 QF flights/year, so doesn't sound that impressive.

There's flights and then there's BIS miles ... comparing his total with the top guns here on AFF (flight tracker) he's got a mighty lead.

All the more impressive as he's done it all on his own coin. No company funded travel up the front for Mr Martin.

I met some AFFers who've done more then 1,000 flights on QF metal (myself included) so that's really not an impressive number.

I reckon QF should acknowledge their frequent flyers by the total mileage flown rather than number of flights.

I think they actually do but perhaps not to the extent that FF would like.

They use such devices as Perceived customer value, Status, Upgrades, P1 experiences....
Mostly behind the scenes stuff

Perhaps they should put on a surprise at the gate for those who hit 500, 1000 sectors or other milestones such as you suggested total miles.

Whats a good target? 100K miles, 500K miles, 1M miles???

Generally speaking, I don't see the relevance in saying that someone flew X number of times/miles on their own coin compared to flying on company coin. If, for example, someone has enough money to fly around the world for fun, does it counts more than someone who flys around the world for work?

1M sounds like a decent target.

It doesn't matter whether someone has one flight or two thousand. Most here are all of the same ilk. We can all learn from and share with each other.

Also, counts can be misleading. The figure relating to me above does not include the roughly 600 QF flights I took between October 1994 and November 2004 but it does include 50 odd flights I have booked but not flown as yet.

Exactly..... a bit of "mine is bigger than yours" going on here....

I suspect any "automated" tally of my miles would miss the flying I did from 1967 through 1992... With 1977 through 1992 at least 50K / year. Pity I lost 32K miles with PanAm folding...

Happy wandering

Fred

That's for sure. I've only recently been playing with AFF flight tracker, more so for a bit of fun. I can't see how I can add many flights for which I don't have a record. Pre enrolling in VFF, I had many DJ flights. I've only, in the past few weeks, joined the JQ web site and I'm not even sure if that will track flights. For years I flew quite a number of JQ sectors until DJ lured me across with the lounge. I only joined QFF in 2002, so all the ones previous are lost to prosperity and how the hang do we find records of the Ansett sectors???

I'm having fun with AFF flight tracker, but it will never be accurate.

Geez you lot are scrooges. Pretty decent effort for an old bloke who loves QF and loves to fly.

Exactly. Anyone that clocks up 3M+ miles has/is doing a huge amount of flying ... especially when they're all self funded pleasure flights.

It doesn't stop there though. We cannot compare a 30 year old flyer with an 82 year old flyer. Back when he started his flying tally, flights were bloody expensive (comparatively) so racking up frequent flying status back then was a very different beast to what it is today. In fact, my frequent flying only came about because flights became so cheap and enabled me to develop a business plan around those cheap flights. A 30 year old flyer would struggle to know the expensive flying days and these days, many of us seem to commute by plane rather than by bicycle, tram, train or foot like those of 50 years ago.

I have no doubt at all that others will far surpass his tally, however they could never be compared with this guy IMHO.

Thanks for publishing this list. Looking at various people's trackers, I was developing a theory that very few AFFers visit India as it is not well served by OW-the list knocks that out of the water for the megamilers

CX, MH, UL, FY, BA, JL, QR off the top of my head. Just not QF.

Nah just have plenty of time sitting at Cairns airport but good observational skills. It's just a number and I will suddenly drop off the radar as work takes me back in.
