I always used to take a small Swiss Army knife but since 9.11 I moved to carry on only, so it now stops at home.

I'm rarely HLO but it does require some thought to make sure it's not in my cabin bag, particularly on the way home. One time I did forget and left it in my cabin bag. Luckily it was ROK so the checkin staff just went and found my checked bag. I'd have been devastated to have it confiscated.

But bigger airports help too. Last month I tried to take a good bottle of wine as carry-on on BNE-SIN, completely forgetting about the liquids rules (can't believe they're still a thing to be honest). Luckily The SQ checkin staff there also went and found one of our checked bags so we could pack it. It took 30mins but we were very grateful and mighty embarrassed. Saved me a post on the travel mistakes thread!

My vintage Tumi carry-on trolley case. British racing green ballistic nylon, leather handles and leather name tag holder. Incredibly solid and well built. They don't build them like that anymore.

A leather passport holder/travel wallet embossed with my initials that was given to me when I went backpacking in Africa in 1997. Still looks as good as new and I still use it every trip.

I have my lucky woolen jumper (since 2010) that has just this year gone into retirement.

It was looking just a little too tired to be acceptable. New one currently being broken in.
