YUP/P Fares on AA

Sorry to re-hash an old thread, but I am trying to book AA First fare in August 08 between SFO - DTW (Detroit), then DTW -SEA and SEA-SFO. After reading info in this thread I went to the AA site, searched for appropriate flights with Restricted First Class which came out to US$1701, but they are booked into KUPP7ZN fare basis.

City Pair Fare Basis
SFO to ORD KUPPR7ZN
ORD to DTW KUPPR7ZN
DTW to ORD KUPP26DNR
ORD to SEA KUPP7ZN
SEA to SFO F26NR

My question is what is the difference between a YUP and a KUP fare, or am I correct in thinking it is seasonal (high/low etc)

Same-Same

One is a Y-class fare with auto upgrade,
other is a K-class fare with auto-upgrade.

The KUPs are probably slightly cheaper.
No difference if you fly on your upgraded flight, the Y fare will have greater availability if you need to do last minute changes.

Thank you..justed need to confirm before booking.

Hye, New Member here, already realise I have much to learn.

Any starter tips greatly welcome to get me up to speed. Is there a starter learning pack?

My main objective right now is based on article I read in Fin Review ( was that a collective groan ? ) in hope of parlaying my 90,000 existing Qantas FF points into AA advantage points and thus flying Mel-LHR return for 90,000 rather than 126,000 !

Regards, Tim

Hi Tim, Welcome to AFF! :p

As far as getting started, I recommend having a look at the abbreviations thread because sometimes we get a little lazy and write in shorthand. ;) This should help fix this up. http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/abreviations-and-explanations-5056.html

AA are more generous for FF redemptions and can fast track you to status with the AA challenge should you wish to go that way. There is a wealth of knowledge in the AA section of AFF here including Dave's thread on the AA challenge. Dave Noble is the AA king (and was interviewed in the article you read) so if we can't help you out with any problems, he's your man.

As for converting points to AA from QF, unfortunately you're pretty stuck with the points in QF. Points cannot be transferred out of QF into AA but there is a long way around for AMEX points (through SPG) if you accrue these.

Again, Welcome to AFF and I look forward to your posts. :p

(Also, a mod may want to move these posts as they're generic to AA and not so much about YUPP's.) ;)

Cheers,

How would the SEA - LAX sector be viewed as in terms of SCs and points? Do I get the full SCs and pts or just pts on QFF? Anyone knows the mileage?

Any idea of the total SCs on the above? Are those KUPP's or YUPP's fares? I selected First with restrictions.

Any better way to maximise SCs? Am going off from SEA to spent a few nights in LAS before heading to NYC but staying at EWR area to be near friends. From EWR then to BUF but no AA.

Thanks,

Ric

Travel on an AA flight number, get SC's/FFpoints as per AA. This is different for several other airlines in relation to QFF; this is specified in the: You can see this when there are riders, e.g.
Cathay Pacific:

Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on joint venture flights or Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld ™ Alliance Airlines.
There are no suc eclusions for AA:
Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.

Go SEA to LAS via DFW; ~USD980 and 210 SC's.
LAS to EWR on 6/6 can go LAS-LAX-DFW-EWR for USD743 (earns 300 SC's!).

SEA-LAX-LAS would earn 150 SCs and LAS-DFW-EWR would earn 210 SCs.

It would appear that YUP and KUP airfares have increased from when I last booked in July last year.

Yes, the US$ cost of fuel has increased, so fare go up!

(Unlike in Oz where the +++ increases. )

Hi Guys,

I was under the impression that YUPP/KUPP fares had quite a few restrictions to them and hence are classified as Restricted First Class.

I'm looking at a couple of YUPP's later in the year (around Thanksgiving so I want to book them sooner rather than later) so I had a look at the fare rules regarding cancellations. This is what I noted.

NOTE - I.PRIOR TO DEPARTURE - CHANGES ARE PERMITTED AND MUST MEET ALL CONDITIONS OF THE NEW FARE. FULL REFUND WILL BE MADE WHEN NO PORTION OF THE TICKET HAS BEEN USED.
Is this really the case. I'm not very good at reading fare rules at all so I have no idea if this is as obvious as it appears.

I don't really want to spend $1000 on an airfare that I mightn't even use so a cancellation clause would be nice. ;)

Different KUP fares have different restrictions. Some are fully changeable/refundable etc, others aren't as flexible. Some have 14 day advance purchase, some have 7 days etc.

For example, LAX-NYC, a KUPP21YN has a 21 day advance purchase, and is non refundable. Changes are restricted too. A KUPPMZ has no advance purchase restriction, is fully refundable (if not flown and you cancel before you are set to fly) and there is flexibility to change flights around.

From the snippet you wrote, this does sound like a completely refundable KUP. I've had ones that I've refunded without issue (although takes a few extra days if you paid in $A rather than Pounds or $US).

The main restriction with these fares is that if you change your flight and there are no F seats in the right class (e.g. P) then you will end up in Y with no refund or other compensation.
