Re: Another plane down

Hard to imagine a good ending over the alps :(

Re: Another plane down

Sky News (I think UK feed) is reporting that GermanWings, via its social media (shudder) is saying that it has no info to report, even as police, French PM etc are saying the plane has crashed!

Addendum: Sky News host asking excruciatingly dumb and repetitive questions of an 'expert'. Rolling vision is of a generic 'Airbus' A320.

Edit: Such as ... "The A320 has a good safety record to this date - would this rule out a malfunction in this case".

Yes nauseating indeed

Old aircraft 24 years old reportedly. BBC coverage much more comprehensive. Airline has not acknowledged alleged crash

BBC saying mayday was transmitted and debris has been found at 2500 m altitude in alps

Awful news. Been following it here today as I'm in the same time zone. Recent press conference from Germanwings and info that there was no distress call made.
The following article from the AVHerald is interesting as it reports a recent incident of a similar sounding scenario (LH A321) but the crew were able to stop the descent.

Very sad news. This is particularly worrying for me as I flew Germanwings regularly back when I was living in Germany.

I also just checked my records and it turns out I flew on the exact same aircraft (D-AIPX) on a flight from Hamburg to Venice last October. I remember the flight very well because the plane randomly and suddenly ascended steeply about 5-10 minutes before we were supposed to land. We continued climbing for several minutes before levelling off, doing a few loops and coming in for a second landing attempt into Venice, which was successful. (I asked at the time on the Ask the Pilot thread about this, and JB suggested it might have just been a steep go-around called very early, though I've never really been 100% sure.)
