I wouldn't have thought that commercial aircraft would track over that region given the volatile nature of what's currently happening there.

Wonder if certain countries will be forthcoming with intel from their radars or satellites.

The FAA banned any US carrier from flying over this region back in April. Russian carrier Trans Aero & Lufthansa have said as of today they will no longer be flying over Ukraine/Crimea.

It does make you wonder if airlines were still using this route because it was the quickest & therefore more savings to be made on fuel.

Well someone did a calculation of fuel savings versus liability if a plane was downed.

I can't believe it. What a tragedy.

In this case it appears that the Malaysia Airlines plane was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Extremely unfortunate, but I have a feeling that this will be the nail in the coffin for MH.

Yes just woke to this horrible news....I feel for all the families waking to this very upsetting news. I hope they determine the cause very quickly. My family is due to fly Malaysian home from Paris in 8 weeks.....will not be putting my family on that plane...... too much has now happened. Going to be hard getting 6 reward tickets out at this stage but willing to throw the 140k Qff reward away.
