Malaysian Airlines MH17 Crashes in Ukraine

Disaster all round, again close to home having flown MH on that route or close to it a few times recently. Obviously whatever the outcome for MAS.. if it has been shot down.. in 2014, I would imagine the ramifications could be huge. Plenty of planes have been using the airspace - supposedly not part of the restricted area. Too easy to start making assumptions and conclusions but hopefully if it is what is being suggested in MSM then finally some political will can be found to take proper action.

Obviously this should now be a no fly zone and those responsible tracked down and held accountable

Does anyone know for sure if there was a no-fly restriction over any part Ukraine for commercial jets? Two Ukrainian aircraft had already been shot down in the area over the past few weeks.

CNN reported FAA and EU placed a restriction over Crimea but not where the plane went down.

I don't like pointing fingers but that is a huge oversight by all involved in airspace restrictions when considering the escalation that had been taking place in the region surrounding Torez and the weapons that were being used.

Waking up this morning to this tragic news. So very sad. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those onboard. I don't see how MAS will recover from this.

Watching RT is painful - so ridiculously biased, I'd rather fauxnews - they already have had an UK 'aviation expert' making political and military opinion, mostly anti Ukraine, anti-MAS and anti west.. unfortunately this going to be overly political
however RT have had a lot of on the ground footage. a lot has been uploaded on liveleak, but it is as graphic as it gets

Its not so much that people are pointing fingers at MH, but given all the fallout from MH370, and the fairly common view that the airline and Govt handled it badly, that are starting from a very poor position. Even though other airlines were flying this route, its likely MH will take a hit for not being more risk averse.

Can't express just how much I sympathise with the loved ones waking up to news of the loss of family and friend. Just terrible.
