TUCKED away in a discreet location in terminal two at Sydney Airport is a door marked ''private''. It is the gateway to the Club, offering a sanctuary for a select few.
Inside, away from prying eyes, the lounge features a la carte menus, personalised service, luxury facilities and escorts to take members to the terminal gates.
In short, those invited to Virgin Australia's hidden lounge in the domestic terminal are schmoozed like no other passengers.
The Club represents the latest battleground between Australia's warring airlines, Qantas and Virgin, and is being played out entirely behind closed doors as they try to woo chief executives, chairmen and government ministers. Big bucks are on the line.

I wonder if they are going to do a status match for P1's and CL members.

The great unwashed Plats will have no chance(all said tongue in cheek)

Given it's a CL equivalent, I'm not sure that they would want P1 members in there.

They already have for CL members.

I think the majority of people would be interested in a J/Plat lounge, where you can eat more than a chicken and rice dish or some cheap mexican dish

Last time I was in the QF MEL J lounge, that was pretty much what was on offer...a curry and rice dish - I think it was ample and was pretty happy with it too.

You get many more options than just 1 dish in the QF J lounges, plus they change

There were some empty trays - maybe they ran out? Their breakfast choices are great in comparison though.

I would say so, but at least in CBR they are very good at keeping the food out until close.

I was one of only about 5 people in there a few weeks back, I took the last 3 pies  in a few minutes they had another whole tray out, and this was 30 mins before the last flight was due to depart!

I'm just going to throw this out there - If you see some random guy snooping around SYD T2 in the next few weeks, you know its me trying to find the "Private" door that is "Tucked away" just for the sake of getting a photo of it

This isn't "News News" though - Didn't AusBT run an article on The Club awhile back? It gave me a smile though :)

They really have the brains working on the names at DJ.

Can we expect a name change to "The Airline"?

Or as I like to call them "The HLCC"

= "The Hybrid Low Cost Carrier" Airline.

:P

They borrowed the naming system from Cathay Pacific which at HK has The Wing, The Pier, The Cabin, and in those are The Noodle Bar, The Deli, The Champagne Bar, The coughtail Bar. Maybe John Borghetti's business card reads The Boss. Up next we'll see The Ticket which gets you The Seat and The Meal, actually that sounds more like what Air NZ has doesn't it?

Would be nice to eventually have someone 'on the inside', but as with the CL, presume photos and experiences will rarely get out. But hints would be nice.

Not all CLs... Must be a degree of targeting.

I strongly suspect that due to the nature of such things, just about anyone could join the club, provided that they could then direct a multi million dollar travel budget VA's way. Unlike other statuses like WP, being a CL member and I would suspect being a "the club" member requires no actual flying before hand, just the ability to change figures in the airlines chosen accounting package in a meaningful way.

Found one which is on FlymeFunky a while back, but really didn't give much away.

I'm sure more pics will leak out eventually...

Onboard some time a go I remember hearing an FA say "shortly we'll have items for sale from the menu in your seat pocket which is called ... um ... 'The Menu'"
