Decided that Angkor Wat and Cambodia was next on the journey of Asian Discovery for me, which combined with some cheap Scoot fares and wanting to spend some time in KL gave me a ten day SYD-SIN-KUL-xREP,xPNH-SIN-SYD itin, with the REP to PNH leg to be done by bus or boat. Initial airlines were Scoot, Air Asia, Malaysian, Jetstar Asia and Scoot.

Unfortunately two days before travelling a close relative passed away so funeral dates meant I had to push the flight back, cancel KL hotels and reschedule some other flights. Despite hotels mostly being prepaid appear to be having some success in refunds - still need to send some proof to Scoot to hopefully get a full refund (meant to be a voucher but have obviously already booked alternate flight), paid a online change fee on Air Asia and have asked for a full refund from Malaysian.

Some larger photos and full postings (in some cases) on my travel blog (once I get back from the US - say 20 Sep)

TZ1 SYD 1250 - SIN 1900
B777 D, ScootBiz

When rebooking flights there wasn't a substantial difference between Econ and Biz ($150) so I went for ScootBiz (well premium, but Jetstar does the same thing with its misnomored Business Class). My seatmate had availed himself of the A$99 upgrade (plus a whopping $41 facility fee!! False advertising at its best)

Was running late so taxi to SYD instead of public transport and arrived around 1130 to the J checkin lines. Promptly checked-in although there was a small queue for FlyBag customers.
Massive queue for Immigration was aptly avoided with the APEC card then nothing at security.
Boarding from Gate 24 which unfortunately doesn't provide for great shots of the aircraft, but once on board showed what I was missing.
Walking to the Gate after clearing security arrived at 1150 to find plane and FAs. The FAs disappeared onboard about 155 (presumably to help prep the plane) and about 1200 the outsourced check-in staff arrived. After spending ten minutes with multiple attempts to setup the movable gate lane ropes boarding commenced at 1210, although the first 20 pax or so were held for another few minutes halfway down the ramp.

First impressions positive - clean plane, new Black Biz seats with good headrests. Bulkhead leg room is limited so I wouldn't recommend it. Agree with a previous post about the silly table design that doesn't extend to the opposite armrest so it is somewhat unstable. Only noticed the callbell issue a couple of times.

Biz had about five spare seats (a few upgraders). The yellow extra legroom seats were sparsely filled and up back was chockers... So a real disparity between the payers and cheapskates.

The online meal choices aren't recorded (presumably with upgraders it is difficult) so pad and paper prior to departure, along with a small bottle water. Meal served about 40 min after and yes the servings are tiny! Although the lasagna tasted ok. Came with a fruit cup as well as three drinks over food service (only one alcoholic).. (Food and drink worth about S$30) Free ipads also handed out 20min in. (S$22 down the back). Based on the labels all the food seems to be double catered out of Singapore.

The ipads come in a thick plastic case with a large extra battery, stand and repositioned headphone insert. On/off, volume and lock still usable... Very customised interface with Movies/TVs and Games... Choice was inadequate - only three new movies (Avengers, Hunger Games, Wrath Titans) plus four older and intl titles. A few decent TV titles (Family Guy, Big Bang, 3rd rock) but only one episode each. Then five games inc Shrek Kart, Avatar, Uno, Real Football 2010, Nova -- Kart being particularly stupid given the weight of the tablet. Ipads were collected about an hour out from Singapore.

Also a streaming service using gogoinflight (S$16) - ipad users need to predownload Gogo Video Plugin for ipad, Android 3.2 Tabs and PC/Mac laptops. Most of the new release movies not available due to studio restrictions but a couple of additionals. However could not find a wifi point using my phone.

Crew fairly attentive during flight with a number of passengers purchasing additional food nearer to Singapore. Only other downside was being asked to raise seat and window shade whilst still 35min out and not in descent.

So apart from the food size, a reasonable experience on ScootBiz, and perfectly on time.
