Earlier in the year I took advantage of the Double Status Credit promotion and I booked a Business Class trip from Melbourne (MEL) to Denpasar (Bali - DPS) via Sydney (SYD) on Qantas. This trip I figured would finally get me to lifetime gold membership with Qantas after 14.5 years and provide me access to the QF Sydney International First Class Lounge for the first time ever.
Not long afterwards my older sister found out she would be losing her job as it was outsourced after working for 10 years for a small business / sporting club. Kara's husband has access to staff travel discounts so before I knew it I was inviting Kara and my niece to Bali to celebrate the next stage.
Fast forward a few weeks and I was talking to my younger sister Lana who wished she would be going. Lana has just recovered from breast cancer after 12 months of treatments and surgery and will be spending the next 6 months in recovery with lots of tests. Lana hadn't been overseas since she was 11 and having separated from her husband two years ago I thought this was a great idea. From here I asked her to join us in Bali and after hearing she didn't really have the money it was time to use my Qantas points for her and her children to join us.
Somehow I went from just me travelling to Bali to having my two sisters, two nieces and one nephew joining me. But after the worry of my younger sisters cancer scare I couldn't think of anything I'd rather do. Bali for 6 days, first class lounge access, lifetime gold membership and my sisters both well and happy. Couldn't be better.
