For three days only, buy award miles and receive at least 35% bonus miles. Then, encourage your family and friends to buy and watch the bonus grow, up to 100%. The more people who buy, the higher your bonus gets. So buy miles, share this promotion and get even more miles.

Hurry, buy before 11:59 p.m. CT (Chicago local time) on September 4, 2014 to participate in this offer.

Looks like 4,500 people need to buy for everyone to get 100% bonus miles, which is like the cheapest I have seen MP points sell for.

It's not targeted. Anyone can buy, no limitation. That's a very good deal comparing to last year's up to 60% bonus.

Can anyone give a quick guide (or link) to United Miles? I've got an account but only ever used their engine for searching for USDM flights pre-merger.

Is there a sweet spot for flying to? Esp for Australian residents?

The sweetest spot I could find was HKG-BKK-SYD or the other way with TG F at 40,000 miles one way. However with TG no longer servicing F to SYD from late October, I don't know what else is good value.

Just tried a dummy bkg SYD – SFO – SYD. Needs 170K miles or $2,615 paid tkt. I have 0 miles currently.

In pricing 85K miles (getting 100% bonus = 170K miles), the purchase price $3198.

Why would the miles more expensive, what am I missing?

the 100% bonus will kick in once total number of transactions hit 4500+. The bonus is tiered depending on how many people bite.

Is that saver award (similar to QF classic) or standard award?

And why would you want economy?

Ok I don't follow that, but I did assume I was buying half of what I needed, but that does not compute until there are 4500+ buyers. I can only think to try it every now and then and see what happens.

That was just comparing a Y bought tkt on Christmas Eve w' the price of miles. It has to be SYD - SFO.

Think it might be that all the cheap saver award ticket on Christmas Eve is no longer available, and only the standard ones left
So you are correct, it is not a good deal for the Christmas Eve ticket when booking now

How do you know? I haven't received the promo email. The only way to find out is for someone who didn't receive the email to try and purchase miles using the promo.

Anyone can buy buy clicking the link in my post above.
United are increasing the reward bonus as the take up rate increases. It wouldn't make sense to target the offer if they are looking for a larger take up.

Interesting that only 560 people have bought so far.

Gives an interesting insight into the number of people who take up these offers - I would have thought it would be much higher.

Even at 100%, its not that exciting at 1.9c per mile. If you have a booking with UA, they usually offer award accelerator and can buy mile at about 1.9c - 2.4c/mile. So if you already have miles in your account, you can create a booking, take up the offer then cancel it or can buy the ticket using money, buy miles and then cancel it. Probably can't do that too often but I guess some Americans already have bookings with UA and can get those miles cheap without this promo.

The number of transactions have gone up heaps in the last few hours. Maybe UA just bumped it up so the promo wouldn't look like a failure. At this rate I'm thinking it might finish up at the 80% bonus.

It'd be good though if it reaches 100%. That'd make it the cheapest Y & J award to south east Asia, cheaper than Lifemiles and USDM.

Edit: Just saw the number of transactions jump up by 1,000. Good to know UA actually wants it to reach the 100% bonus.
