I asked what the hoarding was at start of the VA satellite wing at BNE (next to the current Lounge) and was told it was to be a VA "coffee shop" or something to that effect. I asked if it was to be part of the Lounge and was told no but it was to be for status guest use only.

I also asked about the now disused gates below and was told that is to be re-modeled including direct access to the Lounge and Club (implying a private screening area like SYD). Hopefully that's not just rumour!

Does anyone know about the "coffee shop" idea? Sounds a bit bizarre, but any new idea is worth consideration I guess.

I have no knowledge of this idea beyond your post, but... the "Koru Express" comes to mind:
A new concept in regional airport lounges: Air NZ Koru Express - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

On my BNE transit the other week, we were only in the terminal about 30 minutes and arrived and departed at adjoining gates on the end of the pier - a complimentary 'Platinum Coffee' would be a very nice touch given it wasn't worth taking the time to walk down to the Lounge.

Except it's down next to the Lounge. Not out the end of the satellite, at the start of it. I think the Kuru idea has merit, but why put in BNE? Surely there is a swag of regional terminals that'd be better suited.

That's been planned for a long time IIRC. Will be nice when completed.

I think Business lounges are coming to the bigger capital city ports, with Plat allowed access.

Well, on that note, I noticed the SYD masterplan released the other day did acknowledge that the extended pier at T2 allowed an "additional 5 contact gates, an additional 4 bus gates, and new lounges."

Whether those are the new 'gate lounges' (unfortunately, probably more likely) or potential 'airline lounges' is left to the imagination but a contractor who worked on the extension did tell me that the upper level was an entirely empty space, and that he was told that it would be possible to allow direct gate access from that space.

I was under the impression JB had publically discounted that idea. Do you know something we don't? ;)

It's certainly been suggested here on AFF lots of times, but I can't recall reading of anyone who has had it straight from the horses mouth (so to speak). I didn't either, but close enough......the valet parking staff told me and one might expect they'd know (maybe).
