I know this is lazy, so I'll apologise for that now, but under this new SC rolling system, I've no time to lose.

I need to accrue 170 SCs quickly (points due to expire pretty much weekly through to year end) and I'm not up with the secrets to milage based ploys. Any help greatly appreciated!

Look for reasonable priced connecting flights. Virgin have quite a big 10SC range - up to 750 miles, but you could hit MEL ex OOL (825miles) for $99 each way = 30SC for $198. However, if you can book a flexi, you can go OOL-SYD-MEL-SYD-OOL which would be 80 SC for ~$418.

If you time things right on Sunday afternoon you cal get the A330 as well :) And you end up in a decent city for a mini break. And you get fed four times.

I don't know how you guys do this. That's brilliant! Almost enough for Gold upgrade for under $1000. I was thinking along the lines of 9 rtn flights OOL-SYD for $75 each, but let's face it, why do so many when you don't have to!

Boy, I'm even now thinking....pleasure rather than business. Can't remember the last time I flew for pleasure. Also push my wife within a roar of Silver.

Thanks for that (any other suggestions that tops antycbr's, most welcome )

CNS-TSV-OOL-SYD booked as CNS-SYD Flexi delivers 60SC for $289 ($4.80/SC)

OK, now I can look even more foolish ......how?

OOL-SYD-MEL-SYD-OOL in flexi looks like circa $750 to me. How do I book for $415?

Ignore the idiot, I'm just leaning these multi-stop flights. Until now, I always just look for direct flights. I've found what you are refering to. Thanks, I'll go to bed now and sleep on it :D

I've got to ask.......

Wouldn't a return OOL-MEL (with SYD stop each way) be classed as just 2 trips for SC calculations, rather than 4?

I assumed the OP was starting in OOL... but you've given me some ideas now for getting the long way to Cairns. You really can't beat the Qantas Dash8 milk runs though up the coast for lots of short sectors. I wonder if Virgin will do the same thing with the ATRs? Although given the choice between ATR and going to Melbourne on at least a 737-700 I think I know which way I'd jump!

I don't have definitive evidence yet but the website here explains that status credits are earnt per sector. A sector being a direct flight from one destination to another. So each flight, with a different flight number, is a different sector.

The only time this causes complications (which Virgin don't have at the moment) is where you have a flight that goes via a stopover without changing numbers. Qantas flights to Europe are examples of this where QF1 goes SYD-BKK-LHR. This is why the earning tables for both Velocity and Qantas go so high in the number of miles to cater for these multi-stop single flight number services.

Update: there's some strange examples here which have me wondering now... If so then the definition of sector is very different to every other airline...

I saw this earlier actually and its confused me greatly.
Alas, it seems it will be much harder to accrue DJ SCs than first thought :(

There are a couple of NTL-MEL flights a day that go via BNE - often not a lot more than the direct flight. Have had to get a few of these before purely for scheduling -- these will definitely feel a little more rewarding under the new system.

EDIT: ACTUAL FIGURES (for dates a month or so out):

NTL-BNE-MEL in Premium = $299 (and vice versa in return) = 75 SC's

$3.99 per SC

EDIT AGAIN: Just read the stuff about zones. OK, this may go back to being unbearable again if the earn rate is the same as a direct flight.

I feel almost vindicated in my stupidity now.

I was trying to work out those zone tables, which is why I asked the question about the sectors of a multi-stop booking.

I'm still confused though, as they speak in zones rather than sectors, almost like the Translink bus/train/ferry zones, except with Translink you pay one fare no matter where you travel within that zone.....unlike the VA assumed concept of pricing per sector but SCs awarded per zone :(.

I'm not sure that the zones would impact on connecting journeys, the overriding factor should still be the definition of a sector being from from destination direct to another. Has anyone seen anywhere that connecting journeys are calculated in a different way? I think these zones are just try someone's attempt to make it less confusing:rolleyes:

Crazy Dave or Velocity Rewards, Can you please clarify this to stop the rumours and speculation going viral ;)

Or hopefully Virgin are going to start all of these services direct, nonstop. Looking forward to direct Canberra-Hamilton Island or Canberra - Nuku'alofa for the winter!

does it say anywhere that zones are related to Status Credits or are we just assuming that? I haven't seen it say that anywhere?

Yes - look at the very first table under point 1 on Program Update | Velocity Rewards. Note that the first column is headed 'zone'.

As for status credit earning on connecting flights, having read all the material, I am pretty sure each individual flight will credit SC's.

Any past flights, as connections, have shown up on my statement as two individual sectors, with corresponding value allocated to each one. Therefor I assume this will be the same. ie: each separate flt number will be considered a sector, thereby attracting relevent SC, as per all other FF programs around the world.. Bring on the SC runs with Virgin :)
