I agree with you entirely on that.

As it stands from what is posted on the web site i don't have a clue how it works or how it is supposed to work and that really should only take someone adding a few extra sentences to the section of Status Credits. It really can't be that hard.
Time will tell which way they go with this but either way I'm sure that there will be an answer reasonably quickly. ;)

Virgin Status Run suggestions

Here is the best I can find at the moment (Adl based on normal non sale fare prices):

Adl/Mel/Bne/Drw, 180 SCs for A$719 in Premium for A$3.99 / SC

Adl/Mel, 399 miles, 40 SCs
Mel/Bne, 857 miles, 60 SCs
Bne/Drw, 1,771 miles, 80 SCs

Drw/Per/Syd/Adl 200 SCs for A$719 in Premium for A$3.60 / SC

Drw/Per, 1,644 miles, 80 SCs
Per/Syd, 2,041 miles, 80 SCs
Syd/Adl, 725 miles, 40 SCs

Total cost A$1,438 for 380 SCs or A$3.78 / SC.

Then do a Adl/Per via Mel return, 120 SCs for A$698 in Flexi or $5.82 / SC and you have DJ Gold for A$2,136 or $4.27 / SC.

Adl/Mel, 399 miles, 20 SCs
Mel/Per, 1,681 miles, 40 SCs

So OK guys who can find a under $2,000 cost for 500 SCs?

BTW this works for me as I do have business in Perth and Darwin.

OR do 2 of the above Adl/Drw returns in Y+ for A$2,876, earn 760 SC for A$3.78 / SC, achieve DJ Gold when you get to Darwin the 2nd time and be well on the way to DJ Platinum when you get back to Adelaide. Cost for the 500 SCs to make DJ Gold is then A$1,890.

IF DJ Platinum is set at 1,000 SC, then 3 of these Adl/Drw Y+ trips (costing A$4,314) will earn 1,140 SCs for a DJ Platinum effective cost of A$3,780 for the 1,000 SCs needed to do the initial qualification.

This weekend I am spending some time analysing various options. It is amazing how intimate I have become with the DJ website in recent times... ;)

Be sure to share what you find. 3 and 4 flight* tickets are sure to be a DJ $/SC winner.

* as per DJ definition of flight, IE flight number changes.

Re: Virgin Status Run suggestions

So from the other thread, my two favorite places were ADL and DRW and seems you are looking at exactly the same options.

I'm currently booked on a Saver $299 DRW to ADL. I'm seriously considering changing it to a P.E $716 going DRW/PER/SYD/ADL.

A few reasons.
It makes the stupidly long and time wasting journey kinda bearable in PE.
I'm hoping so terribly bad for the new BSI aircraft on the PER/SYD leg. Please Please Please!!!!!
Since I'm not gold, I'll look forward to lounge access and try make up the $400 difference by drinking that much worth of beer!

That would give me 80+80+40 equating out to 200SC/$716 or 1SC/$3.58.

Isn't 80+80+40 the Business SC earn rate and not the PE SC earn rate for those flights* (DJ's sectors) or have I got it wrong?

On DJ, PE fares earn Business SC's.

Thanks for the info but now I'm confused.

VA Y+ (Premium Economy) fare earns Business SCs and Per/Syd/Per J (Business) fares (at 2x the Y+ fare) also earns Business SCs as well? Wonder how long that will last? Suspect Y+ SC earn will soon drop from J SC earn to Y+ SC earn. Has VA Y+ fares always earned J SCs?

;) Make full advantage of that! Honestly, one of the best incentives to fill up the front of the plane now.

And I can just imagine all the golds trying to get platinum soon! Though might make op-ups quite rarer.

Yup. I just recalculated my Gold status run cost at A$2,136. I rtn to Darwin (Y+) and 1 to Perth (Y) and DJ Gold here I come. Would probably do both in Y+ but the maths still work.

Re: Virgin Status Run suggestions

Calculated this before in another thread but didn't realise "Premium" credited as Business not P/E ... so it gets even better.

MEL-BNE-NTL (and VV) in premium = $299
MEL-BNE = 60
BNE-NTL = 40
= 100 SCs

That's 2.99 per SC or $1495 to Gold. I have actually flown this route several times due to scheduling.

Well spotted. Nice sweet spot. Enjoy the Gold after 2.5 runs and Platinum after 5 runs.

Tried to add Adl/Mel/Bne/Ntl into the mix but the Y+ price jumps to A$649. :(

Re: Virgin Status Run suggestions

Anyone know if the Virgin Money CC 2for1 deal is eligible to earn SC's?
Now that would be a bargain if PE fares were eligible for both.

I would just need to find someone willing to do some stupid runs around the country .... I don't think any of my friends would understand!

Loobloke..

I just did a virgin money 2 for 1cc thingy and both myself the card holder and the other traveller (silver) the freebie got SC's on syd/mel/syd legs. too good to be true!:)

Re: Virgin Status Run suggestions

The only other one I can think of is OOL-MEL, which can connect via ADL for $365. Pretty close to the 1500miles so not sure which way it would swing.

I wouldn't fly that route midweek as they seem to cancel the OOL-ADL quite often

Adl/Mel is 399 miles, Zone 1, 20 SCs for Flexi, 40 SCs for Y+
Mel/Ool is 825 miles, Zone 2, 30 SCs for Flexi, 60 SCs for Y+

Are those prices the old Premium amounts before they dropped fares because they appear to be $385.

So OOL-ADL-MEL is 1498 miles, just 2 miles short of an extra 40 SC if you are red.

The prices I quoted are current and are as per the DJ booking engine.

SC earning is based on the flight distance as per the individual flight numbers.

1) DJ208 (Adl/Mel) connection to DJ733 (Mel/Ool) would earn
Zone 1 (399 miles) SCs for DJ208 and
Zone 2 (825 miles) SCs for DJ733.

2) DJ1447 (Adl/Ool) would earn
Zone 2 (998 miles) SCs.
