...and if you are doing the connecting flight things, do let us know if they credit properly!

And the short answer is they have credited at NTL-MEL direct, Velocity Rewards are on to it in terms of addressing the whole sector issue but I suspect the ash problem has priority! I note that I only got the one sector CC charge too!

The look on the crew at NTL for both turnaround flights when I re-boarded was priceless, I suppose they dont see too many pax going to NTL for 20 mins, at least I got to check out the wedgetails!

:shock::shock: They did tell you they should credit as 2 sectors, 100 SCs? Right?:shock::shock:

I'm getting ready to do that run in 2 weeks. Please keep us updated if they do credit as 2 flights (they are different flight numbers) or 1. Good to know it is the same aircraft that does the return flight as that eliminates issues with the Bne/Ntl arriving too late for the Ntl/Bne departure.

Damn it. I shouldn't have let on about the MEL-BNE-NTL trick. All this demand is going to drive up the prices of premium tix on my regular MEL-NTL runs :)

re SC (status credit) earn on connecting flights:
I havent seen anyone quote this statement which I found on Velocity Rewards site
Home > Status > How it works
" *When you purchase a single fare with Virgin Australia, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue and there is a via point which does not involve a stopover, the Status Credits are awarded on the mileage from origin to destination, e.g. ABX-BNE via SYD will receive the Status Credits for the distance and fare type flown based on ABX-BNE."

This seems to contradict what has been said previously on this thread nad what has been said in Vleocitys updates on teh new program re sectors.
Does it apply when one "purchase a single fare" and not when buying a multiple fares (eg ABX-SYD and another fare SYD-BNE)?
Anyone able to clarify??

Discussion is happening on this topic on "this thread".

Personally, I can't see them being able to not honour the SCs for separately purchased single fare flights (but these are also dearer than connecting sectors on one fare).

Does this apply to VAustralia? It's listed separately elsewhere on the page.

I'm about to book VAustralia: BNE-SYD-AUD-DUB in PE. Does this mean it's considered a single booking with Virgin Australia and calculated as BNE-DUB direct, SC=150?

If I add a stopover (i.e. stay more than 24 hours) in SYD or AUH, what happens? Are these now 'stopovers' that mean the flights accrue separately?

Another change from the Virgin Australia website:

http://www.virginaustralia.com/Info/multi-city-booking/index.htm

Multi-City Booking Information
Domestic and International flights currently cannot be booked in the same reservation.
If you need to make a booking containing a domestic and international flight including a stopover, these can be booked making two seperate reservations.

From memory the site previously told you to contact the call centre.

My theory now is that Virgin Australia is trying to minimise multi-city bookings (including status runs) to minimise their risk/exposure resulting from disruptions. If bookings are on the same PNR, the airline is responsible for re-routing, food, accommodation, etc. If bookings are on separate PNRs the pax is responsible and either forfeits the 'connecting' flight or pays to reschedule.

Here are my SC run $/SC earn rates from Adelaide to the other ports DJ flies to sorted by lowest $/SC. What this list does for me to to show which East Coast cities are the best to fly out from, on international long hauls, to gain the max DJ SCs for the dollar spent. From this table it appears DJ charges between A$7.99 / SC to A$17.53 / SC for their Premium Economy seats flying out from Adelaide.

As for chasing DJ Gold, that should cost me around A$4,000 - A$5,000 based only on OZ travel legs on out and in bound internationals.

Unless I'm missing something, that's a once off redemption voucher, so the $5/Sc is only valid for 10SCs (or 20 if you were able to book return).

Also, you got better deals than me. I just looked for a OOL-SYD and found $95.36 saver fare (no luggage included) + $13.64 tax + $27 booking fee = $136.00 (which is after the discount of $50 is applied). All this for an airfare I can purchase from Virgin directly for $75 total .

Derp,
Here's hoping flight centre don't know that ;)

Also, I think it's cheap when you book it in conjunction with a sale on DJ, as there is a $69 ADL/MEL sale on atm.

Very good pickup, this is going to come in handy. Will just book two one way fares then. These are the best prices I can see..

MEL-ADL $50.50
MEL-SYD $50.50
SYD-BNE $50.50

This could work even better if they launch a sale in the next 10 days. MEL-BNE had been on sale lately quite low for $79, which would make it $60 or $4 a SC, 2k to Gold.

I think you will find that its sale fares being quoted, BNE-SYD is not normally $69! They are matching the QF one that came out Sunday!

And for the record DJ have fixed my missing SCs from the little jaunt to MEL via NTL and BNE, THANKS!

Mine too. I do appreciate that they honoured those flights booked during the reign of the per-flight number explanation on the site. :)

Just want to quickly say with this promo: http://www.australianfrequentflyer..../jetabroad-50-off-virgin-australia-30786.html

I'm getting $50 o/w fares from ADL to MEL, which awards 10 SC's. ($2500 for gold at $5/SC)

I'll be booking 2 return trips tomorrow with a price beat, just because they are cheap, not for the SC's.
Hopefully Flight Centre will give me a $20 voucher for each of them ;)

The best I could find was A$124 Adl/Mel/Adl which includes their A$27 booking fee.

Cheap Flights, International Flights - Jetabroad

Do say a Adl/Mel then Mel/Syd then Syd/Bne and return in the same day for say A$372 and earn 60 DJ SCs (~A$6.20 / SC) for a very long day of flying. No need for Lounge access as you would not be on the ground that long. Do 7 more and you have 480 DJ SCs and almost DJ Gold.

Oh my aching butt! ;)

Or fly Adl/Apw/Adl in Y+ for say A$1,878 and earn 240 DJ SCs (~A$7.83 / Sc). My old bones would prefer the long haul in Y+ and the Lounge access. Do another of those and you have 480 DJ SCs and almost DJ Gold. BTW this fare is not a discount fare, so when DJ next discounts Y+ fares, it will become VERY attractive.

So sure do Status Runs but do it in comfort and with a little bit of style. That is why, in the OW world, AA YUPs are the go as you get to fly in AA F while earning QF F SCs, for a -Y price. Now if Delta just allows DJ FFers to gain SCs from their YUP equivalent flights, it could get VERY interesting for DJs international Status Runners.

Its cheaper if you buy the fares as one-way flights to really take advantage of it, because the $50 off is only for one way flights, and add in their booking fees it works out to around $20 off per one way flight with a comparable flight in the DJ booking engine.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.:D

The current Happy Hour sale combined with the Jetabroad offer can give some good offers.

MEL-BNE $60.50 $4 SC
MEL-HBA $40.50 $4 SC

Travel in August.

I'm at a loss, as to what offer you mean. Is it this Jetabroad offer? If so, it states the vouchers expire 30 June 2011 and it's for one voucher redemption per customer. Is that your understanding, or am I missing something?

Yeah that's the one, the travel period does not expire 30 June 2011, just the offer. Basically they take $50 of each booking, add their fees and it works out to around $20 off. So a BNE-MEL $79 on Happy Hour today went down to around $60. Note that you will still get full velocity points for that $79 spend, because Jetabroad credits it to their AMEX, which will show on the payment bit on the VA booking confirmation). Just make sure you book one way fares, not returns or it wont work.

Its Jetabroad that is running at a loss here, not Virgin.

Its a pretty good offer if you play around with it.
