This alone is a reason to status match this year and then see what to do about future travel.

Anyone know how long it takes HH to get in touch with you once you've requested through Velocity? I want to book a London Hilton in a couple of weeks, but should probably wait until my Gold comes through?

just book it, then when you get the HH Gold card, ring HH and ensure they attach your HH number and status. I have to do this on most of my bookings as our corp travel agent has a mental block in adding hotel loyalty programme numbers to bookings

Cheers... I'll give that a go - hopefully they'll have contacted me by the time I'm actually going to be staying there.

On another note, is it generally better to book straight through the HH site or through one of discount sites?

I always book through HH site if making my own booking - I know with other programmes such as A-Club will not honor anything booked outside of their direct booking engine. Im not sure HH is the same - worth checking.

As per munitalP above, HH are VERY strict about this. You should always book through their own website, the third party booking engines will not be eligible.

To guarantee full HHonors benefits the booking needs to be made by using either a) a Hilton "Family" website (e.g. HHonors.com) or b) Hilton Telephone Bookings.

While stays booked via some other means may indeed qualify for benefits, this is not guaranteed.

Okay, so can anyone tell me if I book the "ADVANCE PURCHASE FULL PREPAYMENT, NO REFUND OR CHANGES" rate, will I still be eligible for the upgrade per being HH Gold?

TIA you helpful people.

I would also go to the Hilton forum on Flyertalk.Search for the hotel you are booking. Not all hotels, whichever chain, are as good with elite benefits as we would wish.UK and Europe seem to figure more prominently in these lists.Upgrades are not quaranteed-some chains do give out confirmed upgrades to elites but not Hilton (or SPG).

Query.
I'm currently HH Silver only. If I take the Velocity status match I seem to end up with HH Diamond.

So, I'm Silver until the end of this year (already have enough nights for requalification fo next year).

If I upgrade to Diamond, is it just for the balance of this year, or do I get it for all of 2012 ?
Thoughts ?

You get it for 6 months, which extends to 12 months if you have 4 stays in the first 6 months.

Hilton Diamond should come in handy for 12 months.

Wouldn't have anywhere near enough stays to get Hilton Gold on my own but....

This is perfect timing for me as I have four bookings in the US for early October!
I am now also looking forward to sampling the Australian Hilton hotels in the next 12 months :D.

Sorry IHG - I'm already platinum with you until the end of 2012 so no rush to be loyal for a while!!!
